Where Are The Tropics?
The vast majority of fish caught for the ornamental fish trade are tropical fish due to the diversity of bright colours and morphology But what is a tropical climate? If you asked someone to explain a conservation issue within the tropics, most people will reply with something to do with a rainforests i.e deforestation. linking the tropics with rainforests, wild apes and giant taranchulas.
But the tropical climate not just on land. The tropics includes the oceans and rivers, in fact the majority of the tropics are water based. There are freshwater rivers and lakes like Lake Malawi and saltwater (marine) environments like coral reefs
the Tropical Zone
The tropical zone is described as being between 23 degrees north ( the tropic of cancer) and 23 degrees south (the tropic of Capricorn), anywhere between these lines is classed as tropical. The reason for this is quite simple. Because the Earth rotates on an axis of 23.5 degrees these areas between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of Capricorn receive a high amount of sunlight. In fact the sunlight is that regular that there are no seasons and at midday (12 noon), the sun is practically over head.
