Growing and Maintaining Our Developer Team Culture - Adpearance

Growing and Maintaining Our Developer Team Culture

As a rapidly growing company, we’re always hiring developers. So much of what we build integrates across the entire platform, meaning who we add to the team matters a lot. Arguably, there’s no more important qualification than finding someone who can enable us to stay open in our communication and keep up with software practices and standards.

The internal expectation of open communication and collaboration helps us create innovative products and solutions quickly, but it has also shaped our strong and supportive dev culture. Maintaining this culture is important and as we look for new developers to join the crew, I wanted to share an inside look at our software development team and what makes it unique.

1. We focus on fit

We have quite a few team members who have been with Adpearance for years and our strong team culture is the reason why many of them stay. The team's ability to give and receive constructive criticism, to take ownership and responsibility but never cast blame, and to hold each other to the highest standards are the reasons why we find so much success as a team. And it doesn’t hurt that everyone brings a sense of humor and a good attitude to work each day. This makes it feel like we are friends working toward a shared goal rather than simply colleagues working on the same project.

In the short time I have been with Adpearance I have met many people I would now consider friends. I look forward to coming to work and I am motivated by those around me. Building strong, lasting relationships with coworkers feels encouraged and contributes to the positive moral. – Cole Britton

2. We listen

Things move fast at Adpearance and sharing information across teams is a necessity. Because of that, the development teams prioritize clear communication and encourage collaboration. Whether you’re new to the company or new to a project, it’s important that no one on the team ever feels life they’re bothering another developer if they need help or ask a question. Each member of the team is open to helping others find a solution or thinking through a technical challenge on a whiteboard.

My favorite thing about my role, the team I am on and this company as a whole, is that my voice is heard. I feel like my input is valued and I think the dev teams thrive because everyone's ideas are welcomed. We succeed through our innovation and collaboration. – Andy Tews

3. We celebrate each other’s wins

At Adpearance, we know that the people are what make the business, and Adpearance has some damn good people.

As a manager, nothing makes me happier than hearing from my colleagues that Adpearance has given them the tools to succeed in their career and take pleasure in building something great. I want everyone to enjoy coming to work, to feel challenged, and to be surrounded by hard-working coworkers they can learn from in a positive work environment. Part of that is making sure everyone’s wins are celebrated and good work is given positive recognition by colleagues and management.

We’re growing and we’re looking for front-end and full-stack developers to join the team and be a part of this growth. If the software development team sounds like it may be the right fit for you, browse open positions and apply online. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
