This Volkswagen Rail & Dune Buggy got away, but there are more like it here.
This dune buggy features a fiberglass body mounted to a Volkswagen chassis and is powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. The car is finished in metallic blue with a blue racing stripe over black and blue upholstery, and additional equipment includes a roll bar, chrome-finished 15″ Cragar wheels, drum brakes, rear coilovers, a bull bar, fender-mounted headlights, a Moroso switch panel, and a Kenwood CD stereo. This dune buggy was recently acquired by the selling dealer and is now offered with a clean North Carolina title listing the car as a 1987 Volkswagen.
The fiberglass bodywork is mounted to a Volkswagen Beetle chassis and is finished in metallic blue with blue center striping. Exterior details include a black roll bar, a chrome-finished bull bar, a racing-style fuel filler cap, a polished stinger-style exhaust outlet, fender-mounted headlights, and a polished windshield frame with side mirrors. Chrome-finished 15″ Cragar wheels are mounted with 225/60 BFGoodrich front and 295/50 Hankook rear tires. Braking is handled by drums on all four corners, and the rear suspension features coilovers.
The cabin houses fixed-back bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black with blue centers. Appointments include lap belts, a black rubber floor covering, a Kenwood CD stereo, and a carbon-look dash with a Moroso switch panel.
A three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 90-mph speedometer with an inset fuel level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 24k miles, and the true mileage is unknown.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four is equipped with a single carburetor and a tubular exhaust system. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.
