“Hi, I’m Val! I work on the Ting Internet People Team here at Tucows as the Senior Manager of Internal Communications and Culture. I’ve been with Ting Internet since the beginning. I started in June of 2015 and will be celebrating my 9th Ting-iversary next month! Throughout my time at Ting, I’ve been able to grow professionally as a result of my passion for our Operating Principles and a willingness to “dare mighty things.” I started my Ting journey as the City Manager for the Westminster, MD fiber market. I then worked on the marketing team and learned so much about creative ways to get a message across. Around the 4 year mark, I recognized that, as we were growing, we needed to build out Ting's internal communications practices and be proactive about preserving our special workplace culture. I pitched a job idea to our executive team and they gave me a chance! When Ting became a separate business within the Tucows family, Kerris Hougardy, MBA, our VP of People, arrived to lead our Ting People Team. Kerris quickly swept me up, and I’ve never looked back. I work with an amazing team that includes Raj Parmar, CPHR, SHRM-SCP, Em Schuler and Nora Garrido and I love showing up for work (in my spare bedroom) every day! I left the world of public education for Ting and the journey has been incredible. I’ve obtained a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute and my Change Management Practitioner certification through Prosci. Great leaders help you build your skills, and I’ve been lucky to be mentored and managed by some pretty incredible people here at Tucows. Currently, I’m working on the launch of our Change Management Center of Excellence, building a digital workspace for our people using our new intranet and communications tool, LumApps, and developing a corporate volunteer program. I get to work on some pretty incredible projects that are always focused on the productivity and engagement of our people. And, it still feels like this is just the beginning.
