MindMac - Better privacy-first, native ChatGPT app for macOS. New: GPT-4-Vision and Internet Browsing

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share with you all a new macOS app that I recently developed which supports the ChatGPT API.

The app, called MindMac, allows you to easily access the ChatGPT API and start chatting with the chatbot right from your Mac devices. You can ask it questions, have it tell you jokes, or just have a casual conversation.

As a truly native macOS app, MindMac is designed to take full advantage of the Mac’s hardware and software capabilities. This means that it runs smoothly and efficiently, without any lag or performance issues. Additionally, MindMac’s interface is sleek and modern, with a clean design that’s easy on the eyes and intuitive to use. Whether you’re a power user or a casual user, you’ll appreciate the speed and responsiveness of MindMac, as well as its elegant and user-friendly interface. So if you’re looking for a high-performance, native macOS app that looks great and works seamlessly, MindMac is the perfect choice.

One of the things I love about this app is how easy it is to use. You don’t need any coding experience or technical knowledge to get started. All you need to do is download the app, sign up for an OpenAI API key, and start chatting.

The app is fantastic! I tested it on my Mac and I’m thrilled with the convenient hotkeys and the Inline mode. I’ve actually purchased a license already. So, I do have a feature request: I kindly ask if it would be possible to add a global hotkey that allows for quick accessibility, similar to macOS’ spotlight.

PS: This comment was generated by the Inline mode.

Hey @RegaMind!

Just stumbled across the app… Thank you for the awesome UI!

I think there could be a bug in one of the settings atm.

I deselected the option to “Display icon in dock", but now the tool bar at the top doesn’t recognize when MindMac is the primary selected app on the screen:

Likewise, selecting the icon from the tool bar and clicking on any option other than “check for updates” doesn’t do anything. ( I can’t paste a second image due to being a newly registered user)

The hotkey for opening the settings does work though :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for your kind words and reporting the bug @eiteldagnin. Let me investigate more on this case. Hope you enjoy MindMac, and please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Hi everyone,

:star2: Exciting updates, MindMac 1.7.6 is here! Say hello to personalized outputs and enhanced UI/UX. This version brings a plethora of exciting enhancements.

:rocket: New

  • Introduce a new feature that allows users to customize the output preferences for both the global and conversation profiles. This includes the ability to choose the language, tone, style, and format for the responses.

:sparkles: Improved

  • Enhanced the overall performance of the application.
  • Decrease the minimum width of the sidebar to improve the overall layout.
  • Reduced the margin of the input field for prompts to optimize space usage.
  • Updated the color of the filter and sort buttons for improved visibility and aesthetics.
  • Updated the color of folder and conversation icons for better consistency and visual appeal.
  • Allow users to scroll upwards while receiving responses in stream mode to easily view previous messages. Please notice that macOS 14 Sonoma offers a more enhanced visual experience for scrolling animations compared to its predecessor, macOS 13 Ventura.

:wrench: Fixed

  • Resolved the issue where the text caret would jump to the end when pressing Shift + Enter in the middle of a prompt text, specifically when using the “Enter to Send” feature .
  • Fixed issue where prompt template was not inserted correctly in certain cases. The problem occurred when applying a prompt template once and then removing it using the Cmd + A command. Subsequent attempts to apply the same prompt template were not being recognized.

Let’s check it out at here. We would greatly appreciate and highly value your feedback. Thank you!

Hello, I installed MindMac a few weeks ago but I couldn’t see any use cases where I would use it instead of just going to chat.openai.com. Could you give me some reasons why I should use it? I am not trying to blast the product just wondering what some use cases would be.

Thank you for your question. I understand your point. If someone is seeking for:

  • A variety of built-in prompt & character templates
  • More organized conversations
  • The ability to use ChatGPT directly in other applications (a.k.a Inline mode)
  • Improved conversation parameters
  • Output preference control
  • Customizable hotkeys
  • Quick cost usage estimation
  • The option to use multiple LLMs (such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, OpenRouter, or local LLMs through LMStudio/LocalAI/GPT4All) all in one place

Then, MindMac could be an excellent alternative to OpenAI’s website for their daily needs. You can check more MindMac features at here. My objective is to ensure that everyone has a fast and enhanced experience while using ChatGPT. Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
