🌟A visionary celebrates his 90th birthday: We congratulate our company founder Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann 🎇 🥧   Long before the term was on everyone's lips, Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann used the special mathematical discipline of operations research to realize what is still one of the great promises of artificial intelligence today: using intelligent algorithms to make complex processes faster, better and safer. The vision  and pioneering spirit with which Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann founded INFORM in 1969 is still the foundation on which our company stands today. Today he is celebrating his 90th birthday!   For Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann, there was no business process that he didn't think could be optimized. Whether a winery wanted to use fewer resources in making a cuvée, a hospital wanted to reduce the time patients waited to get examined, or a company wanted to minimize empty runs when organizing internal transportation. He harnessed the power of mathematics. As one of the world's leading researchers in the field of Operations Research at RWTH Aachen University, he was convinced early on that mathematical models and specialized algorithms could be used to optimize even the most complex business processes. This was his motivation for founding INFORM, or as he puts it: "I wanted to prove that operations research helps you make better decisions!" With INFORM, Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann was one of the first to succeed in implementing these special mathematical procedures in software and making them applicable to business management.   Without this pioneering achievement, today's businesses would be hard-pressed to make intelligent decisions in an increasingly complex and interdependent world. Whether it's the logistics of ground handling at airports, the on-time delivery of millions of new vehicles from the factory to the dealer, smooth processes in the construction of cruise ships, the on-time delivery of building materials to construction sites, the rapid handling of containers in huge maritime terminals, the daily monitoring of millions of financial transactions to prevent fraud, or optimized workforce management - INFORM systems ensure that everything runs smoothly.   And Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann's passion is still part of the corporate culture today, for which we are all very grateful. ✨ INFORM OPTIMIZES SPARE PARTS LOGISTICS AT JUNGHEINRICH 🛠 🔧 In order to optimize the availability of more than 90,000 different spare parts, Jungheinrich Service & Parts AG & Co. KG (S&P), which is part of the Jungheinrich AG, will in future rely on intelligent inventory planning from INFORM. 🥇 The main objective of the project is to improve the economic availability of around 90,000 different spare parts both in the central spare parts warehouse in Kaltenkirchen and in five smaller regional warehouses in southern Germany, Slovakia, England, China and Singapore. 🉐 🎯 To achieve this, the software optimizes the scheduling and planning processes based on AI-supported forecasts and mathematical algorithms. It creates optimal order proposals depending on the situation, warns users of potential bottlenecks at an early stage and even supports scheduling if necessary. This allows Jungheinrich S&P employees to concentrate on their core processes while optimally planning and managing the supply of spare parts. 💡 “The main challenge for us is the high proportion of sporadic requirements,” says Gitta P. Pahlen, Inventory Manager Material Planning Spare Parts at Jungheinrich S&P. “Around half of the spare parts sold are requested sporadically. It was therefore crucial for us to find suitable software that calculates optimal inventory strategies despite the unpredictability of sporadic demand, keeps inventories at the right level and ensures delivery capability at all times”. Steve Jobs knew this. 💡 And for us at INFORM, especially in these technologically exciting times, it is important to openly discuss the opportunities that new technologies offer for innovation and product development, and to be aware of the risks. This is the focus of our new event series #Crossroads, where we make ongoing innovation processes transparent to all colleagues and invite them to actively participate in the discourse, ask questions, contribute ideas and give feedback on ongoing projects. Because we are convinced that beyond all technological possibilities, good ideas are the basis for good innovations! And these can only be created by networking with colleagues and allowing them to participate in new and further developments. This is exactly what happened at the first Crossroads event. In an exciting, competent and varied presentation by Carlo Matic, Managing Director of the Aachen-based company Interactive Pioneers – das digital-first Brandstudio and expert on innovation, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship, our colleagues were able to learn about two current product developments: an AI-based CO pilot for automated responses to customer inquiries and an innovative workforce management software that enables shift workers to manage their work and private life via a mobile application. 🎉In the presence of our managing directors Dr. Andreas Meyer, Jörg Herbers and Peter Frerichs, many of our colleagues were interested and curious about the new offering. The transparent presentation of the development processes and the associated challenges for both projects was an essential part of the event.
