MakeOver Monday part 2

HeyHey Fab Free! It’s Monday so that means it’s more of “The Big Make Over”. Today I’m focusing on Alistar and our Fabulous Guys. I do want to note that all of these pictures are totally untouched and unedited.  This is goning to be a looong post so let’s not dither about and jump right in.

So, I I first said I was going to do a male make over avatar I had NO idea how much different it would be from doing the female. But dang, it’s so much more difficult and frustrating. With the girls, I had loads of choices of heads and bodies but the guys really don’t have that much in free choices. I almost threw in the towel and said I’d have to do a limited Lindens make over for the guys. And granted…. using Lindens would be much easier. But I wanted to do free.

So, let’s remember where we started. This is the Second Life starter, “Greg” in his birthday suit. Not all together awful but certainly more ‘human-like’ than human. Why the designers for LL didn’t spend more time and care and artistry for the male population is beyond me.

And Greg close up.

I added this next pic because I wanted to show that the Greg skin is not horrible. In fact it’s not bad at all. It’s just the clunky shape that makes it bad.

The first and only free body I could find was the “Robert” body from Altamura located at the London City Freebie Center. The good and frankly, bad thing about Altamura is that the head comes attached to the body. While this means you don’t have to track down a mesh head. It also means you can’t use a different head if you already have one or find one you like better. Altamura does offer headless bodies and bodiless heads but only as paid items. The other quirk for the free Altamura bodies is they are not Omega or BoM friendly. With the return of BoM I find this rather frustrating. I can only assume that this is because these are all older versions.

This is the Robert right out of the box. Not my favorite look. He looks angry… like axe murderer angry.

“But me back in the box”

So knowing I couldn’t change the head I focused on the shape. A note here, I did change the shape of the body and head using the System sliders to suit my own taste, your mileage may vary.  However, I couldn’t get it just right. So I took to the MarketPlace for shapes. Where I found Sweet’s.  Several free shapes for Robert and others. Loads of 1Ls skins, some free hair, and even their own Bento Bom mesh body for just one Linden. I would have likely picked this based on the quality of their other products but I was set on absolutely free. There are several other Mesh Bento and BoM ready bodies on the Marketplace and the Grid that are under 10L each. And the minimum amount of Lindens you can buy is 2.50$ USD which will net you about 600L. So it’s not like you’d break the bank.

At any rate, I picked “Sweet’s Free! Shape for ROBERT by Altamura” and ran with it. I was able to adjust with the System sliders and got it pretty close to exactly what I wanted. The Sweet’s shape even came with mesh eyes. Alistar is getting closer!

Look’it them cheek bones!

One note, none of the free or 1L male bodies I found came with genitalia. Another drawback for the guys. You can find free male genitals on the Marketplace. However I can’t review them here as we are ‘family friendly’.

So, let’s talk briefly about AOs (Animation Overrides) for both the new kids. There are some basic AOs on the Marketplace for free and one, Bright’s Spunky Girl was the one I used for Julianna for a loong time. It’s basic but really all you need starting out. The female walk cycle is a bit exaggerated in the hip sway but not horrible. And at least the idle poses aren’t like a cat in heat.  It’s not on their MarketPlace, you can only grab it in world -> Here.

There are also two basic AOs (Among others) at Free Dove Listed as “AX oo2 Basically a Boy and Basically a Girl” that I tried. I found them… ok. I liked a lot of the stand animations and they worked well. I found the idles to be too restless and hyper. In fact, that was my issue with a ton of AOs free and paid. You can find all types for free and just need to try them to find one you like. Just pay attention… lots of free AOs are NOT bento rigged. Which means they work… but your hands are going to stick out stiffly and not move well.

Ultimately, I chose the AOs “Daily sLife Free Male Bento” and “Lucky Girl” from Tuty’s for both of our new kids. It’s got Bento right there in the name, the hands move well, the walks are not overly ‘cartoony’ and best the idles are smoothly animated and move from one stand to the next very realistically. This choice didn’t surprise me as I use Tuty AOs for both Juli and Gabe.

SO there we have it for the new kids. We have Mesh Bento rigged bodies and Mesh heads, good skins and they walk less like ducks and more like Egyptians.  (2 internet point for you if you get the reference )

Next week… HAIR! Maybe some clothes and we’ll talk about how to set up your Inventory so it doesn’t catch fire.

Also… if you have questions or comments, please let me hear ’em! There was a great question last week about making Lindens in world and I am still checking out my research on that and hope to have something to say about it next week.

Of Gifts and Goals

Snowy Woods

Hi there, Fabulous Readers!  The pupster and I decided to go for a long walk today and think about 2018.  I like to do that as the year ends and decide what to keep and what to improve.  The arrival of the new year brings a fresh, clean start, and I’m determined to set some realistic goals for myself – goals that I can stick to.  As we meandered through the winter wonderland scenes at Lemon Beach, I began by listing what went well in the past year.  For starters, finding budget friendly fashions and sharing them with our favorite readers is going right at the top of the “Keep on Trucking” list.

I Sense a Gift (or Two)

Earlier in the day, Rip and I made a visit to the Sense Event.  This monthly happening showcases new releases in a variety of categories from menswear to furniture to home and garden to kids’ items to women’s wear.  Each round opens on the 18th of the month.  We arrived and landed in front of a Christmas tree surrounded by free gifts.  Many of them are for the ladies, but I happily discovered two for the gentlemen.  The free gift box from Alter contains a deep crimson button down shirt, classic black trousers and even shoes.  The Owen top features rolled back cuffs, a subtle vertical stripe pattern, realistic folds and several buttons undone.  The solid black trousers fit well and coordinate perfectly with the top.  To complete the look, the generous designer also tucked a pair of oxfords inside the package as well.  The best part about this gift is that it includes standard mesh for classic avatars as well as styles for popular mesh bodies – all for free!  You just need to be a member of the Sense Event group, but it’s completely free to join.

Sizes and Mesh Body Compatibility:

  • XS, S, M, L and XL (includes separate alpha layers)
  • Adam
  • Aesthetic
  • Belleza
  • Gianni
  • Slink
  • TMP

Setting Some Goals

Now that we’ve  examined what went well, it’s time to think of a few things to work on.  I know for sure Kat has some ideas for chores around the house, but I reckon there’s room on the “To Do” list for some quiet moments fishing with man’s best friend.  Isn’t that right, Rip?  Rip?! Now where did he get off to?  Ugh.  That dog can hear the rattle of a box of Ripley Snacks more than a country mile away.  Seems like he just might not be man’s best friend after all.  I guess I’d better head home and get to work repainting the trim around the doors and attacking that “Honey Do” list.  There will be plenty of time for fishing down the road (I hope).  Until next time, happy shopping!

Nope, I’m Not Too Old For an Easter Egg Hunt!

Happy Easter

Hey there, Fabulous Readers!  After all of Kat’s Fabulous Finds from the Easter Egg Hunt over at the Land of Rainbows, I journeyed to the sim to check it out for myself.  Right away, I discovered the colorful egg from Ascend, and excitedly teleported home to open my free prize…

A New Stan

… and then discovered the Ben Slim Fit Shirt package included only versions for mesh bodies.  At first, that was a big bummer, but I had been toying with the idea of picking up a mesh body anyway, so I decided to take the plunge and go full mesh.  After my transformation, the top fit my Belleza Jake body to a “tee” (ugh, even I winced at the bad pun – sorry).  It showed off my newly acquired muscles, and the texture featured realistic wrinkles.  The front is a solid charcoal color, and a cheery holiday message is printed across the shoulder blades. Best of all, it was completely free as a gift in the Easter Egg Hunt, which I appreciated after my spending spree.  The hunt runs until April 6th, so there is still time for you to “hop” on over and do some searching for yourself.

Mesh Body Compatibility:

  • Belleza
  • Signature
  • Slink

I’m looking forward to blogging a wider variety of clothing than I was able to show in the past.  It will take some time to get used to my new face, but at least Ripley didn’t run and hide from me when I put it on.  Hopefully, the best readers in the world will think it looks ok, too.  Until next time, Happy Easter!

Be Still…

On the Western Skyline

Hello Fabulouses!  I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.  Usually, Ripley and I have an item of clothing to tell you about, but our Fabulous Finds today include a free skin that you can pick up as a member of the Fabulously Free in SL group.  It’s not often that you can pick up such a lovely skin applier for a song, so I was super excited to pick up this gift!

A Natural Beauty

The gorgeous free Shara skin is flawless, and features slightly pink cheeks, dark eyebrows, and a frosty lip color.  Inside the free package, there are five skin tones:  apricot, caramel, pineapple, sand, and taupe, with two varieties of lip color (one slightly darker than the other).  In my photo, I’m wearing the “sand” tone with the lighter lips (v1).  One thing I was thrilled with is the box included both the head and body appliers, so I had just what I needed to change up my look with no further purchases. I really love this skin!  In order to wear it on my Catwa head and Maitreya Lara body, I first wore the Omega System Relay HUDS for Catwa and Maitreya, then added the Shara applier.  Within a few moments, my appearance was updated effortlessly!  I did add a black eyeliner to emphasize my peepers, but other than that, what you see is the skin straight from the applier.  Isn’t it just lovely?  To pick up this beauty for yourself, simply teleport to 7 Deadly s[K]ins, and travel to the group gifts section.  Locate the Fab Free shelf, and give the vendor a click.

It’s Almost Advent Time!

Beginning on December 1st, and running through New Year’s Day, 7 Deadly s[K]ins will be featuring an Advent event with male and female gifts for 7 Deadly s[K]ins group members.  That’s 32 gifts, and yes, fellas, this includes you, too!  Currently, you can join the group for free, but during advent, the group join fee will increase to 1,000L.   The gifts will be located behind the couches of the male and female departments.  I’m really excited to see what each gift will contain!  If you are interested, make sure you join the group soon, because the normal join fee is 250L, and I’m not sure how long the free join will last.

…My Steampunk Heart

In our travels today, Ripley and I also visited Pixel Box Design, where my hound with a nose for fashion led me to my second group gift, the free Steampunk Old Heart Grunge and Glass necklace, which is a present for members of the Teleport Hub group.  Featuring an antique gold finish, an eclectic assortment of pendants, and even a pair of glasses, this funky bauble comes with a resizer so you can adjust it to fit your avi.  It also allows you to change the style of the clock that sits just above the heart.  It’s a fun piece of jewelry!  The Teleport Hub has a 10L join fee, but membership gives you access to a ton of free gifts around the grid.  It’s one of those groups I joined a long time ago, and I keep picking up gifties as a group member, so it was well worth the teensy join fee!

I hope the rest of your weekend is relaxing.  Until my next post, happy shopping!

Just a Boho Girl and Her Pup

Just a Girl and Her Dog
Hello Fabulouses!  Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s best friend must never have owned a dog.  Ripley brings me far more joy than any jewel ever could….although I do have to admit that a diamond wouldn’t have outrageous vet bills………  Aww, don’t worry boy, you’re still my #1!

Speaking of the Number 1…

Yesterday in my post {HERE} I highlighted a lovely dress that I picked up from Brii Underground for a song.  What I didn’t tell you at that time was that there are quite a few goodies at the store, all available for just one Linden dollar.  My beautiful boho outfit is one of them.  From the jeweled headband and accessories, to the hemline of my maxi skirt, the Mireia outfit includes everything I’m wearing.  I love the realistic texture of the cropped tank top, and the way its hue is echoed in the pattern of the skirt.  Raspberry and teal always look so delicious together!  The generous designer thought of everything you need for this complete outfit, including feathered earrings, a necklace, and a slender bow to accentuate your waistline.  There’s even a pair of sunglasses and a make up applier that I opted not to wear.  The lovely floral tattoo is also tucked inside the package.  I don’t normally wear body art, but this one was just too pretty to pass up.  To add Mireia to your inventory, teleport over to the shop, and locate the vendor in the 1L section on the front wall.  There’s no group required!

Sizes and Mesh Body Compatibility:

  • Mesh skirt in XXS, XS, S, M, L
  • Fit mesh top in XXS, XS, S, M, L
  • Alpha Layer for Classic Avatars
  • Belleza Freya, Isis, and Venus
  • Maitreya
  • Slink Hourglass and Physique
  • TMP
  • Tonic Curvy and Fine
  • Tattoo applier for classic avatars as well as Maitreya and Omega
  • Omega Make Up Applier for Catwa Head

Until my next post, happy shopping!

Pretty in Plaid

Pretty in Plaid

Hello Fabulous Readers!  I hope you are having a relaxing weekend.  After a visit to the vet today, Ripley is snoozing by my side as I type this post.  All the excitement just wore him out.  Actually, he kind of looks like I felt after my flu shot earlier this week…  Poor boy!  At least he doesn’t need any more shots for awhile.  Before we headed out to the pet doc, the pupster and I discovered a free group gift to share with you.

Rich Hues for Autumn

My Fall Dress from Sevyn East features a black sleeveless sweater tucked into a loosely pleated plaid skirt that is topped off with bow tied at the waist.  One of my favorite outfits back in high school included a skirt very similar to this one, so as soon as I saw this beauty, I knew I had to have it!  I really love the deep colors, which are perfect for fall.  Although it looks like this frock is composed of separate pieces, it is actually all-in-one.  With sizes for classic avatars in addition to two mesh body versions, this free gift is a great addition to your fall wardrobe.  To pick up a copy for yourself, simply teleport over to Sevyn East, activate the group tag (don’t worry – it’s completely free to join!) and tap the vendor.

Sizes and Mesh Body Compatibility:

  • Mesh in XS, S, M, L, XL (includes alpha layer)
  • Belleza
  • Maitreya

Once I am able to rouse Ripley from his well-deserved slumber, we will travel around the grid, and locate another Fabulous Find to share with you.  Until my next post, happy shopping!

Are You Feeling Lucky?

Remember

Hello Fabulous Readers!  Ripley and I keep finding fantastic Boho-style clothing to share with you.  Today is no exception.  If you are lucky, you can scoop up this outfit completely for free.  Sound intriguing?  Read on…

Ruffles and Lacing

My Cotton Candy Boho Bralet and Laced Skirt are a Lucky Board prize over at @rOrO.  Both pieces feature a pink and purple print framed with soft teal, reminiscent of the sweet carnival treat it’s named for.   The symmetrical design of the fabric is quite pleasing to the eye, and I really love the color scheme!  Delicate wavy trim adorns the top, while white lacing keeps the maxi skirt securely in place.   This outfit has a soft, romantic feel and is just so pretty.  There are 2 lucky boards at the shop with rotating prizes on them, as well as a Midnight Mania board.  Love blogged the gorgeous prize for that board in her post {HERE}.  I think the pupster was a lucky charm for me because I didn’t have to wait long until that magical “K” appeared on the lucky board vendor.  Quick as a wink, I tapped that board, and did a little happy dance for good measure.

Mesh Body Compatibility:

  • Isis

I hope the rest of your work week passes by quickly and smoothly.  Until my next post, happy shopping!

One Magic Hour

The Magic Hour

Hello Fabulouses!  In the midst of all the weekend chores, it’s so important to indulge in some down time.   You have to look out for yourself so that you can care for others.  Here, Ripley and I are enjoying a magic hour before diving into all the “have-to’s” that seem to make up my weekends.

Bold Chevron Print

My sexy black and white Drizella dress today is a free gift from Seniha for members of the Mesh Body Friends group.  I just love the timeless zig-zag pattern that never goes out of style.  This little beauty features a neckline that plunges deeply, but still provides coverage in all the right areas.  A coordinating panel accentuates your waist, and the skirt falls to just the right length.  Best of all, since the MBF group has no join fee, I added my new frock to my collection completely for free!

Mesh Body Compatibility:

  • Freya
  • Hourglass
  • Isis
  • Maitreya
  • Physique
  • Venus

I suppose one hour off will have to do for today.  After a trip to the home improvement store to pick out a replacement for a dripping faucet in RL (I had NO idea there were *so* many faucet styles available!), I never did get to grocery shopping yesterday.  I can’t let the pupster run out of Ripley Snacks…  Until my next post, happy shopping!

Witches Brew

Witches Brew

I should have listened to Love’s advice in her post {HERE}.  “Be careful what you conjure, witches,” she said.  I thought I read the spell correctly.  I really did………but somehow, I turned my pal Ripley into his arch-enemy…….a cat!  See him perched up there on my shoulder?  See that look on his face?  He is NOT happy…….not one little bit!  I am hoping that one of our Fabulous Readers can point me to the antidote.   Either that, or perhaps Love can help me out…

It All Started At The Cart Wash

As the pupster and I unpacked our Cart Wash boxes, I began with this adorable silver Cobwebbed Mini Dress from MishMash Fusion, which is a one of 11 shades in the MishMash Fusion gacha machine.  This strapless frock features an all-over spiderweb print, which is adorned with a black ruffled trim and waistband.  As soon as I put it on, I fell in love with the loose-fitting skirt, which has plenty of extra fabric for it to swish with each step.  The package contains standard fitted mesh as well as versions for mesh bodies, so I’m sure you will find the perfect fit for your avatar.   At only 20L per play, you can easily stock up on a variety of colors.

What’s Included:

  • Standard Fitted mesh
  • Freya
  • Isis
  • Venus
  • Ebody
  • Hourglass
  • Maitreya
  • Physique

Along Came a Spider

With the web pattern on my new dress, I couldn’t resist an arachnid-style necklace.  For just 1L on the Marketplace, I scooped up this Spider Necklace for Woman from La Forgia Jewels.  This bauble features onyx, moonstone and steel beads, and a spider pendant in the center.  I thought it complemented my new frock well, and the price was just right!

I Needed Just One More Item…

The only thing missing was a witch hat (not a witch CAT, but a witch HAT).  I set up my cauldron, pulled out all the ingredients, and began the incantation…  Then, it happened; just when I chanted the words, my nose twitched and I sneezed a great sneeze!  A green mist floated up from the brew, and when it cleared, instead of a HAT, I had a very annoyed former-German-Shepherd-now-CAT glaring at me.  “I-I-I-I’ll make it right, Buddy.  I promise!” I stammered.

So, you see my dilemma, Fabulouses.  I picked up a terrific mini dress and necklace for a grand total of just 21L, but I also made a HUGE mistake in my magic spell.  If anyone knows the antidote, Ripley and I will sure appreciate your assistance.  Until my next post, happy shopping!

Down That Red Dirt Road

Down that Red Dirt Road
Hello Fabulous Readers!  I hope you are enjoying the official arrival of summer.  In my part of RL, summer time can be unbearable.  We are broiling under a heat wave with record high temperatures that are leaving me longing for the rural dirt roads and cool green forests of my childhood home.  Since I can’t get out for long in RL, I sure am glad that Ripley and I could take a long stroll down a country lane in SL.

Cute and Casual

After reading Love’s post {HERE} and Carson’s post {HERE} about The Cart Wash Sale, Ripley and I decided to take a look for ourselves, and we discovered the perfect casual outfit at the Finale Couture cart for our trip down memory lane.  For only 10L, I scooped up the complete Lea outfit, which includes my black cami-style top and distressed denim jeans.  One of my pet peeves is having to break in a new pair of jeans, so finding a pair that already have that vintage look, and are comfortably soft is a real plus in my book.  The pale hue of these softly worn trousers contrasts beautifully with the dark satiny texture of my top.  I love the way the top leaves part of my tummy bare to feel the gentle summer breeze.

Sizes and Mesh Body Compatibility:

  • Mesh Cami for Classic avatars in XS, S, M, L, XL (plus alpha layer)
  • Fitmesh Cami in XS, S, M, L, XL
  • Cami for Belleza, Maitreya, Slink
  • Jeans for Slink, Freya, Hourglass, Isis, Lara, TMP, Tonic Curvy, Venus
