Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf placed second at the Tiger Invitational Tuesday in Auburn, Alabama. 

"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Andrew Danna said. "It was an incredibly difficult golf course this week, and our team managed it well. Congrats to Auburn on the victory. They played some incredible golf. We are looking forward to getting to Statesboro for another opportunity to compete in a few days."

FGCU battled with one of the best teams in the land to post a runner-up finish in an 18-team field, the Eagles' third top-three performance of the season. Tournament host and No. 2 overall Auburn won the team title at 16-over-par, besting the Eagles by 15 strokes. 

As a team, FGCU tied Auburn for the tournament lead in made birdies with 33. The Green and Blue resumed round two Tuesday morning, closing with its best round of the two-day event - a 294.

Four Eagles placed in the top 20 or higher on the player leaderboard. Austin Cherichella finished in a three-way tie for third place at four-over-par, tying alongside the 12th-ranked golfer in the country - Brendan Valdes from Auburn. Cherichella held a one-shot lead with seven holes to play. 

Joseph Sullivan (+7) tied for seventh, Matt Millar (+9) tied for 13th and Brody Stevenson (+11) tied for 18th on the player leaderboard. Auburn's J.M. Butler won the individual title at two-over.

Sullivan improved each round and emerged as the only Eagle to sign an even par scorecard in Tuesday's final round, producing a bogey-free back nine to climb into the top 10. Millar cut one stroke each round to climb up four spots late. Stevenson posted his second top-20 performance in his third collegiate start.

FGCU returns to the course this Friday to compete in The Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia, hosted by Georgia Southern.
