FGCU third overall after day one of Pinetree Intercollegiate

Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf positioned itself third overall Monday after day one of the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia.

"It was extremely difficult conditions, but we hung in there and have a chance tomorrow," head coach Shannon Sykora said.

The Eagles can pick up their second team win of the season and of the month Tuesday. FGCU sits just seven strokes back of Charleston Southern and Northern Illinois, who are tied for first with a total score of 603.

The Green and Blue's 306 in the opening round was good enough for second place at the time. As a team, FGCU has produced a tournament-leading 104 pars, but it is seventh overall in total birdies.

On the player leaderboard, Charleston Southern's Odette Font leads the field at two-over.

Leonie Wulfers (+6) highlighted the FGCU starting five Monday, currently tying for fifth heading into Tuesday's final round. Wulfers posted back-to-back rounds of 75 and opened the tournament with four birdies during the first nine holes.

Amelie Alcantara emerged as another bright spot for the Eagles, tying for 11th overall after shooting 75 and 77.

Lousiane Gauthier (18th) and Posie Farrelly (T22nd) improved upon their opening-round scorecards. Gauthier cut three strokes in her second-round effort, while Farrelly shaved off one stroke.

The Eagles tee off Tuesday's final round starting at 9 a.m.
