Ausable River Flume Falls are a set of three waterfalls located in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The falls lie in the heart of Wilmington, only a short walk from where the Ausable River cuts through Ausable Chasm. The waterfall is comprised of several steep cascades, with the highest drop of over 90 feet. The second drop is 45 feet and the third one is only 28 feet, but this one is the most visually impressive. It is here that you can find the Flume, a deep and wide cavern with spectacular walls of dark rock. The narrow pathways along the edge of the cavern offer visitors a stunning view of the swirling waters in the pool below the falls. There are numerous spots to stop and admire the falls, and you can also admire the view of Whiteface Mountain from the pathway. It is possible to get close to the waterfall, although the sun should be avoided, as the area can become quite slippery in the summer due to the amount of spray.
