I was able to reproduce the issue. It seems that Firefox encodes the website in a different way

Thanks for the report.

I was indeed able to reproduce the issue. the page has a different character encoding in Firefox.

Tested with:
Browser / Version: Firefox Nightly 201228(🦎 86.0a1-20201225095506), Chrome Mobile 87.0.4280.101
Operating System: OnePlus6 (Android 10) - 1080 x 2280 pixels (~402 ppi pixel density)

Moving the issue to needsdiagnosis.

It looks as though Firefox's automatic detection is not seeing the page as Unicode, as if I change the encoding to Unicode in the Firefox menu then I see what appears to me to be normal Japanese text. The page doesn't have any declaration of the encoding like <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=unicode"> or in the HTTP headers, but it still seems to be detected fine in Chrome. @hsivonen, is this something that can be fixed without breaking the detection on other sites?

The page is UTF-8 but Firefox decodes it as Shift_JIS. The reason why Blink and WebKit decode is as UTF-8 is that they, contrary to the spec, honor an encoding declared in the XML declaration in text/html. This is near the top of my list after Fission. Gecko bug, spec bug

Thanks! Then let's close this as a duplicate of the Gecko bug.
