shooting, usually using a gun or similar kind of fire arms
討つ
revenge, avenge, to get even
Originally 討つ came from killing using a SAMURAI sword (katana). To wreak a vengeance was officially approved in Edo era for everyone (i.e., it was usually not allowed for farmers, artisans, or merchants to turn against samurai, but in order to revenge, they were allowed to use a sword to duel with Samurai (if the samurai was an enemy) and all these events were called 仇討ち, adauchi).

= right of samurai to kill commoners for perceived affronts
It's not a ritual but a custom.
It's like a "Permission To Kill" for 007 (LOL!) given to samurai in Edo era, so samurai people were allowed to kill civil people without any penalties.
