The "moment" when the milk carton was about to fall over, I tried to hold it on with my hand on the spur of the "moment", but couldn't do it in time, "later on" when the milk spilled over the floor, the cats were gathering.

「咄嗟」は、人の行動を指す場合が多いような気がします。何か瞬間的な出来事に対して【反射的に行動する時】に使うのかなと。
It seems to me that "咄嗟" often refers to a person's actions. I think I use it when I act reflexively to an instantaneous event.
「途端」は、【後に続く結果】を客観的に記述する時に使うような気がします。自分の行動を記述してもいいですが、視点はあくまで客観的です。
I think the word "途端" is used to objectively describe [the result that follows]. You may describe your actions, but your perspective is just objective.
「瞬間」は、前後のことより、【その時点】について言い表したい時に使うような気がします。
As I see it, we use "瞬間" when we want to describe "the moment" rather than before and after.
