Recently, we hosted a dynamic workshop within NFDI4Energy project, focusing on the crucial involvement of policy and society in open research platforms. We pondered key questions such as the accessibility of energy model results to society and where societal involvement holds the most value in the research cycle.

We welcome Benjamin Gaube as a new team member and doctoral researcher under Prof. Weinhardt at IISM.

Benjamin received his M.Sc. in Sports Science at KIT and grew into the field of Information Systems during his time as intern at Liebherr Aerospace GmbH as well as his master theses at Corvolution GmbH. His research focus on utilizing biosignals in adaptive systems to improve productivity and health at the workplace. Further he is associated member of KD²school and HAPS.

Exciting Business Data Strategy Case Study Presentations On Friday (26.01.2024) the final presentation of the Business Data Strategy Case Studies of the 5 Teams of master students happened. The groups worked on cases from finance, healthcare, education, waste management, and agriculture, with the goal of developing an innovative business strategy for the successful incorporation of AI and data-driven applications into the strategies. Our IISM team members, Kim K. Miskiw and Alexander Grote, had the honour of presenting their research in Honolulu, Hawaii. Kim gave a talk on the topic "Multi Power Market Bidding: Stochastic Programming and Reinforcement Learning" (available here), while Alex presented his work on "The Positive Impact of Metric Learning on Open Set Nearest Neighbour Classification" (available here). Both PhD students received valuable feedback and enjoyed the fruitful discussions.

Bio-signals are nowadays being studied more intensely than ever to understand the processes within the human body and brain, which can inform technologies that help us understand and support physical and mental activities.

The Business & Data Analytics team, along with other colleagues from KIT, attended the ICIS 2023 @ Hyderabad. Tobias Gölbel’s paper, “Developing Blockchain-enabled Marketplace Interfaces: A Design Science Research Study”  was nominated for a Best Paper Award. Felix Sterk’s “paper  “Reallocating Uncertainty in Incumbent Firms through Digital Platforms: The Case of Google’s Automotive Ecosystem Involvement” was also presented and well received at the conference.

We're delighted to welcome Fabio Stano as the newest addition to our team, stepping into the role of a researcher and PhD candidate under Prof. Weinhardt at IISM. In his prior involvement as a student researcher during his master's program at the chair, and his commendable bachelor and master theses, he has already proven his mettle. He now joins the "Platforms & Digital Experiences" research group, focusing on economic decision-making and consumer neuroscience. We look forward to his future contributions to our team. Best Poster and Best Paper Award at DACH+ Energy Informatics Conference in Vienna The Smart Grids and Energy Markets research group (SGEM) attended the DACH+ Energy Informatics Conference in Vienna. Kim K. Miskiw received the Best Poster award for her doctoral workshop submission “Reinforcement Learning and Stochastic Optimisations: An Analysis of the Usage in Short-Term Electricity Multi-Market Bidding”, Leo Semmelmann received the Best Short Paper award for his article “Generating synthetic load profiles of residential heat pumps: a k-means clustering approach”, with Patrick Jaquart and Christof Weinhardt).
