OUR IMPACT

HELLO, IT’S US!

50 years

THIS IS OUR YEAR

The period covered by this Review marks the gradual transition from the third UK coronavirus lockdown, into a period of adjustment after the Covid rules were removed in England in February 2022.

But, what an incredible year!

We have been bold and taken up the challenge to design the future, continuing as an agent for social change, not only in individual people’s lives, but also on a much larger scale to have an impact for entire communities and regions.

We know P3 has an important role to play against the widening gap of social inequality and this is where we have delivered the greatest impact.

Our work is guided by our strategy, one that aims to remove the struggle faced by the people we work alongside to find somewhere affordable and comfortable to call home for the long-term.

We are bringing stability to lives by providing safe homes to live in, reconnection through positive relationships and meaning through access to education, employment and volunteering. We don’t want the people we work alongside to just survive we want them to thrive.

Drawing on this bold plan has seen P3 grow to offer almost 900 places for people to live and we are continuing to build a property portfolio to deliver more and better homes for people experiencing homelessness.

Collectively, we have continued to have a huge impact on the lives of people who turn to P3 for support. So, whether it’s P3 core services, maintenance, teaching, fundraising, young people, street outreach or support work it all matters, because it’s all connected. It’s a collective effort to end social injustice and one that doesn’t just happen on the frontline at P3.

Our mission, vision and values is what we’re all about at P3.

Our mission connects with what we do every day and puts the people we work alongside at its heart. Our vision is achievable, but looks to a place of economic stability where everyone has the chance to be a valued member of society. Our values act as our compass, they guide our colleagues and our approach to service delivery.

This is our every day!

VANESSA

The property had untreated wooden doors at the front and back. They were cold and not safe— you could hear the wind coming through, you could see daylight under the door and people walking past. My cat used to sit there watching people go by.

There were holes in the walls and the landlord had just put boxes of sanitary towels in to fill them up. There were six of them in the door frame when I moved in. I kept telling them and they kept ignoring me, because they only cared about getting the rent.

There was no flooring, no carpet and no lino, just the slats they built on, bare and untreated. I lived like that for a couple of years – I couldn’t be living like that again … They never cared about safety or anything.

Once I walked out of the front door and three bricks fell out and nearly hit me … I had a very weird experience, because I felt

like something actually pushed me out of the way to stop me getting hit, something actually saved me … But now, with P3 … I can trust them. P3 want me to be safe and happy.

I’m feeling a lot better these days, and I’m really excited about getting a new kitchen! It’s going to look so nice. I really like cooking. I like making homemade curry from scratch and roast chicken Sunday dinners. I know what salt and pepper pots I want as well!

If I were still with my old landlord, if I’m honest, I don’t think I’d still be alive. It was that bad …

OUR WORK

HOUSING

Right now we are on track to deliver 250 homes for people who have been through a tough time:

• 117 properties are purchased across Gloucestershire, Lincolnshire (including 26 properties in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire as part of the regeneration of the town) and Wolverhampton.

• 133 properties are underway for the year ahead.

These properties will ensure the people we work alongside can live and thrive in safe and comfortable longterm homes.

HOMELESSNESS

We scaled-up our homelessness services and expanded into new areas.

• P3 Stoke was launched! With funding from the Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme, we joined with Stoke-on-Trent City Council to offer 15 comfortable and safe places to stay across the city with link worker support for people who have been homeless.

• P3 Cambridgeshire successfully piloted and secured the continuation of its Street Outreach team after the initial phase.

7

YOUNG PEOPLE

We evolved our educational provision for young people at RPT to offer:

• Homework Club digitally online.

• Video sessions for our parents and carers support group and our Amplify creative arts programme.

• Digital-inclusion sessions for parents, children and young people.

PEOPLE SHAPING P3

We ensure the people we work alongside are equal partners in shaping the services we deliver.

• P3 People’s Board continues to shape P3 to deliver impact and excellence across all services.

• Our new People’s Standards assess the ‘feel’ of a quality service.

ADVICE

Pressure from the cost of living crisis meant our free advice services needed to grow to meet an increased demand. Here access to the right advice can be the difference between someone maintaining or losing their home:

• P3 Peterborough launched a new enhanced advice service to deliver the right bespoke support for people with complicated lives who have experienced homelessness.

• P3 Derbyshire expanded to offer out-of-hours helpline advice and support for people experiencing homelessness.

COLLEAGUES

Employment and skills training was delivered to young people aged 16–24 when P3 acted as a gateway for eight charities and CICs to access the Government’s Kickstart apprentice scheme:

• 118 placements were offered, comprising 60 placements within P3 and a further 58 placements across the partnership

• 75 young people now have permanent jobs, including 40 with P3, which is fantastic.

MYLES

I had a good job in building construction, was on a mortgage, but then the mental health crisis came … and I couldn’t work, lost my house, lost everything … I was on the streets for about a year.

I saw the adverts for P3, so I gave them a ring and they saw me that afternoon, and that evening, I was in accommodation.

To tell the truth, I was just thankful to get off the streets, but I was surprised at how nice it was. I didn’t think it would be like that. I thought it would be dormitories, I had a bit of an oldfashioned idea about it. But instead, I had my own bedroom. It was great, really great …

I lived there for about three months. Then I went into a P3 shared flat. I was a bit unsure, but I said I’d try it.

My support worker Bernice comes to visit every week to check everything is OK and if there is anything I need. It’s great having her come. The main thing is knowing someone is there and that they can help if you have a problem …

Bernice also got me a doctor and she’s also going to help me to get mental health support … I do need the mental health support.

She helps me with budgeting … I’ve never been any good with paperwork, I’d just leave letters on the side and ignore them, especially when they were in those brown envelopes.

Now I’m 63 … I’ve been here just over a year so far, my accommodation is safe and I’ve got to be honest, I really like it here. It’s just so nice and there are no problems.

There’s nothing not to like!

MELANIE

At school, I was head girl, had distinctions and stars and then college. I did go to university originally, but I had to quit …

I became homeless after a falling out with my mum. I got in with the wrong crowd and my partner at the time was abusive. I was just sofa surfing until I found somewhere with P3.

I ended up with my partner’s mother … she was heavy on the drugs and shoplifting. Then I ended up shoplifting for my dinner because I had no money. It all got out of hand. There was no way I could control it. I didn’t know what to do …

I’d be in pyjamas wanting to chill and someone would bring back six lads with coke and I’d end up joining in. My partner poisoned me with bleach, putting it in my toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner; I only found out when friends told me. People also spiked my drinks with bleach … The day I moved out, I had a mouth so full of ulcers I couldn’t swallow …

My drug misuse had started when I was 19 and with another domestic abuser … I had a counsellor but I didn’t feel I could speak to him.

Then I met Jo, my P3 Link Worker. I felt I could talk to her. With Jo’s help, I got into a P3 women’s refuge. She was absolutely brilliant … I started to feel like me again, the old me, and to crave learning again. Now I’m at university studying psychology … I absolutely love it. It’s so fascinating.

Fleeing my ex was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but also the best. I’m so glad I went to P3, it was the making of me.

My advice to people is: don’t be afraid to talk. You’re not going to get any help if you don’t. Jo and P3 were so warm, welcoming and absolutely brilliant. I still speak to her every now and then. She likes hearing my updates.

I really can’t wait for the future.
