So I asked you guys if you know the “Waldmeister” flavor and some of
you answered, but apparently no one outside of germany/austria knows
about it.
This is why I’m going to explain to you now what this is.
Waldmeister is translated “Woodruff” but wikipedia told me it’s called sweetscented bedstraw.
It’s a green plant with a white flower.
Everywhere else in the world it seems like its dried plant is used in pot-pourri and as a moth deterrent… I know… doesn’t sound very tasty.
Mostly in germany it’s used as flavor and we love the shit.
We have a lot of stuff with it.
We have alcohol, sirup, champagne, ice cream, tea, soft drinks, Jelly-O and a fuckton of different candys.
My personal favorites is the alcohol the jelly-o(mostly with vanilla sauce on top) and the leaf candy (Which I buy mostly at funfairs).
The taste is really difficult to describe to someone that has never tasted it.
Wikipedia says one of it’s names is wild baby’s breath… with is pretty twisted.
We basically consume it sweet. Because it’s a plant it’s a little bit bitter but because we use a lot of sugar with it it doesn’t matter. I guess it’s too difficult to really describe it.
Most people I’ve watched trying it didn’t like it. I guess we germans wouldn’t like it either if it wasn’t traditional for us. We consume it as children in candy and when we grow up we drink traditional Waldmeister punch in may.
So if you have the possibility to try it you should and be open for it’s taste.
