Earphones 「Time Capsule」

I can’t believe it’s November 2022 already… and that this is my first (and probably only) post this year. Lots of reasons behind that, but after listening to Earphones’ latest single, I knew I had to translate that. Time Capsule is the 2nd song in a series of songs with the theme of “letter”. Composed and written by Yaginuma Kana, the lyrics resonated with me a lot, and I suspect, with many too. I hope you enjoy the song as much as I do!

What will I be doing in 10 years time?
I can’t imagine
Will I be working? Will I be married?
Will I even be alive?

I don’t have any dreams for the future now
But will I find something? Anything?
I wonder if I’ll be able to drink beer and coffee?
Will I have a driving license?

Although I yearn to stay a kid forever,
I also desire to grow up

Will the adult version of me be living in happiness?
Can I finally eat the shiitake that I detest so much?
I wonder if I will ever leave this street
Will I leave my bangs like they are now?

In 10 years time, I am well and alive
I even got used to staying alone
Although I don’t really like the daily grind, I’m still hanging in there somehow

I don’t have a partner at the moment. Neither am I married yet, I guess
I got my license, but only drove around a couple of times
I’m just a “driver on paper” only

When I looked at the adults around me as a kid,
I used to think they were capable of anything

Now that I’m an adult, I’ve got dozens of flaws
Although I’ve learnt to eat shiitake
Beer and coffee still taste yucky
And even though the future I envisioned back then is different from now,
I still love how I keep my bangs

88) What are your aims going forward?

Takahashi: Find a character which only I can bring out the charm. I will bear the responsibility of that role with confidence.

98) Are you good at dancing?

Takahashi: I love it! It’s fun! I wanna put in more effort, and polish up my skills.

Kouno: I’ve been bad at it since young. It’s become so much of a complex that I think I can’t catch the rhythm or sense. But being inside this unit, in order to stand on the highest stage, I wanna make up for the lack of talent and sense with hard work. I’ll devote my time towards it from now.

Kouno: Beef jerky.

Nagaku: I changed out my notebooks sometimes, but there will always be fan letters inside my bag!

155) Frankly, in terms of things that require senses, what are you terrible in?

Takahashi: Gauging the distribution of drinks. At meal times, my cup will always not be filled properly, and there are times I over-poured and spilled my drinks.

Earphones Sankitousen! Illumination Plan

Note: Firstly, I apologise as this is not going to be a translated article. I’ll get back to them next month after my trip.

Earphones got invited as artistes as part of phase 1 of the annual C3AFASG’s I Love Anisong‘s lineup, and this being their first overseas performance, I would like to do something special for them.

artistes04.png

Although it may be a little over-ambitious, I have 2 plans in mind to carry out to commemorate their performance.

The first plan is the flower stand project, which I have already created a page for it. The design and illustration are in their interim stages and will be finalised after consultations with the florist and illustrator. For those who wish to participate in this project (anyone is welcome, even overseas fans who cannot make it!), the link to sign up is here. Please also fill up this form so that I can collate your participation.

Now, the second plan is to light up the hall (well, not the entire hall) during one of their songs. Sankitousen! is usually their last song on their set, and it’s almost guaranteed to be on their coming set list due to its infectious melody and audience participation.

For this plan, I would provide Row A-F with UOs (I’ll explain later), which are ultra bright light sticks that last for 2-3 minutes. For those in these rows, and would like to use their own UOs, I would appreciate if you can pass on these UOs to the rows behind of you. I am grateful to have some strategically placed volunteers to pass these around after entering the hall.

The Execution
Sankitousen! is a song filled with pop culture references from Akihabara. With lyrics like, “Are you a fan of DOS? Or perhaps Windows 98?”, “Fans, DDs gather!“, it is arguably Earphones’ most popular song.

Now here’s the part. Around 3/4 through the song, they will break out into a rap, and finish the rap portion with “I’ll be back“, that is when the song will pause and they will look down. This is your cue to get those UOs ready and break them. Marinka (Kouno Marika, the center in blue) will start to sing “UO焚いたエモめの景色 Ctrl+S” (UO taita emome no keishiki CTRL+S) which means “Press Ctrl+S on the emotional image of the UOs lighting up”. This is where everyone should raise their UOs in tandem to create this image below.

Here is a video with instructions! (just the condensed version)

There will be some people in the crowd who will pass an instruction card with a UO glow stick, so please help to pass down to the rows behind you!

sankitousen card.jpg
This is the card that you will receive. The UO will be attached on top, between the 2 dotted lines.

Thank you for reading this post! Also, if you do not need the UO and card, please pass it down to the next row! The more people involved, the better! I really appreciate it!

1) Please give us a self introduction.

Takahashi Rie (Takahashi): I’m Takahashi Rie, a newbie seiyuu from 81 Produce, and I voice Ichinose Futaba*.

Kouno Marika (Kouno): I’m Kouno Marika, a newbie seiyuu from Mausu Promotion, and I voice Kohana Rin*. I just realised ‘Rin-rin’ (Kohana Rin’s nickname)  and ‘Marinka’ (Kouno’s nickname) sounds a little similar, and that made me happy.

Takahashi: Whichever the case, I want to go to an onsen~

Kouno: I’m bad with bugs, but if it’s a mountain like Mt Fuji, I’m fine with it. I like the joy of climbing and being able to see the clear sky makes you feel refined. However, if they are mountains with bugs, I will choose the sea.

Kouno: I think all 3 of us are trying our best. Or rather, we have to work hard.

Nagaku: I think everyone is working hard! When we see each other putting in our best, we can’t help but to work even harder. That is the type of unit we are!

75) Who is the most gutsy person in the unit?

Takahashi: Marinka. She is very decisive on the stage. When push comes to shove, she will be able to make the decisions quickly.

Kouno: Although I’m told that I’m composed, I think the other 2 of them have their own values too. Rieri who desires everything, Gakkyu who is confident in her bad puns – I think both of them are gutsy in their own ways.

Nagaku: Marinka! She’s really like Rin-chan~♪

Earphones 3rd year commemorative live report

Introduction to Earphones

A short introduction about Earphones for the uninitiated. Earphones is a seiyuu unit group formed directly from 2015’s ‘Sore ga Seiyuu‘ (Seiyu’s Life!), which is an anime based on the 4-koma doujin by Masumi Asano. The story revolves around 3 rookie seiyuus and follows their journey on surviving in the industry, recording sessions, and eventually forming an idol unit.

Takahashi Rie (Rieri) is perhaps the most prominent member of the group, and became popular after back-to-back main roles in Konosuba (Megumin) and Re:Zero (Emilia).  Her unit colour is yellow, and her stage position is usually on the left (from the audience point of view). She is referred by the other two as the leader of the group, and her official position is ‘Sister Leader’.

Kouno Marika (Marinka) has grown in prominence lately with main roles in Mitsuboshi Colors (Sat-chan) and Uma Musume (Silence Shizuka). Her unit colour is blue, and she is usually the center of the group. Her position is ‘Noise Beauty’.

Nagaku Yuki (Gakkyu) often goes unnoticed but I do think she compliments the other two well. Her most recent lead role was in Hajimete no Gal (Yukana). Her unit colour is pink, and she usually stands on the right of the stage. Her position is ‘Strawberry Princess’.

Their debut song is Mimi no Naka e (Lit.: Into your Ears) and they refer their fans as Komaku-chan (Eardrums).

This was the last leg of their 東名阪 (Toumeihan – Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka) Some Dreams tour, and it was held at Toyosu Pit.
