Hyundai Motor world premiered the Avante N sedan Wednesday and introduced it in Korea as the company endeavors to strengthen its high-performance offerings.

The Avante N is a high-performance Avante, a car released in April last year. The N brand is Hyundai Motor’s high-performance line, targeting the same market as the Mercedes-Benz’s AMG and BMW’s M.

With the Avante N, Hyundai now has a total of six models under the N brand, including the i20 N, i30 N, i30 Fastback N, Veloster N and Kona N.

“Hyundai Motor’s brand N has been working hard to deliver customers a pleasure of driving,” said Thomas Schemera, executive vice president and head of the customer experience division at Hyundai Motor. “Avante N, which is equipped with many high-performance functions, will be the best option for car maniacs who wish to achieve everything from the daily driving to circuit driving."

The vehicle comes with a 2.0-liter turbo flat power engine that can deliver up to 280 horsepower and torque of 40 kilogram-meters. Available powertrains are an eight-speed wet double clutch transmission (DCT) and a six-speed manual transmission (MT).

The maximum speed of the sporty sedan is 250 kilometers (155 miles) per hour, which is the fastest among all vehicles under the N brand. The car can reach 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.3 seconds.

Avante N is designed to offer drivers the convenience of daily driving, as well as the high-performance functions, Hyundai Motor said.

It is equipped with an Electronic Limited Slip Differential (ELSD) function, which distributes torque between the inner and outer wheels when cornering. ELSD enhances dynamic performance, allows faster corner exits and minimizes understeering by optimizing wheel slip and weight transfer, Hyundai said.

Avante N’s Lap Timer service, which is an exclusive function for the automaker's high-performance models, monitors a driver’s current location on a track and automatically records lap time in real time.

The Korean car maker also introduced The Hyundai N App, which saves and analyzes driving data, like speed and lap time. It also allows drivers to compare driving performance with others. The service, which is currently only available for the Avante N model, will likely to be applied to other vehicles under N brand in the near future.

The sticker price of Avante N with an eight-speed wet DCT starts at 34 million won ($29,600), while the MT model begins at 32 million won.

On Wednesday, Hyundai Motor also rolled out the Kona N SUV and Tucson N Line.

The Kona N SUV, which was first unveiled in April, is available starting at 34.2 million won, while the sticker price of Tucson N Line starts from about 30 million won. The N Line models sit between high-performance N brand and the general Hyundai brand.
