Learn MoreThe Lasallian mission embodies the vision and innovative spirit of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of all teachers and founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (De La Salle Christian Brothers). The Lasallian mission provides a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor. In the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN), the mission serves more than 100,000 people through a network of 100+ colleges/universities, secondary schools, middle and elementary schools, and other ministries in the United States and Canada.

Born in 1856 in Madagascar, he was one of the first to be taught by and later join the De La Salle Christian Brothers there. After all foreign missionaries were expelled from the country, Brother Raphaël became a leader among the island's Catholics. He formed catechists, organized paraliturgies, shared Catholic doctrine and wrote hymns and poems. His great efforts to normalize relations between France and Madagascar earned him the country's Medal of Civil Merit in 1903. He died in 1919, and Pope Benedict XVI beatified Brother Raphaël in 2009. ... See MoreSee Less
