Perspective taking refers to a combination of conceptual and perceptual processes that allow insight into another’s psychological experience (Marvin et al. 1976; Flavell 1977; Frischen et al. 2007). Specifically, perceptual perspective taking draws on the cognitive process such as Theory of Mind to provide people insight into one another’s field of vision only. The ability for conceptual perspective taking develops next, drawing on the cognitive process of perceptual perspective taking while also using additional processes such as mentalizing (Kanske et al. 2016). Conceptual perspective taking is more complex, allowing insight into one another’s psychological experience such as intentions, beliefs, and desires.

Inequality refers to the sometimes large disparities in opportunity and reward available to people from different groups, such as race, class, sex, age, political stance, gender, religion, or ethnicity (Flinn et al. 2005). Red...
