Four years in the making, Duct Tape Project is the new brainchild of Tripmastaz in the realms of trip-hop and downtempo. And it’s a project that makes perfect sense to anyone familiar with Andrei’s background (making Hip-Hop beats since his teenage years), musical capabilities and decades-long experience. Duct Tape Project joins Andrei with a troupe of stellar musicians not only from many different corners of the world but also from acutely distinct genres – Guti, Argenis Brito, Mad Dim, Denis Kaznacheev, Krussia, Damien Vandesande of DOP, Sarkis Ricci, Andrey Orenstein, and vocals by Inga.

Featuring all sorts of live instruments, drum machines, synthesizers and modular systems, Duct Tape Project brings forward a complex work brimming with musicality, creating a vibrant and fascinating ecosystem with enough sonic texture to leave one captivated, enraptured and lost at the edge of words. 

This mix was recorded live at Eshk Record Store and Hair Saloon in Berlin.

The double LP is available on the main run of regular black vinyl and two limited editions of 30 copies on splatter vinyl and blue marble vinyl. Exquisitely mastered at Tripmastering and distributed worldwide by another.round, the new sub-division of BRT Distribution.

Moreover, because our life is unrepeatable, every second of it becomes much more important and beautiful. And the same could go with The Unbearable Lightness of Being where everything that happens throughout life… anyway, you get the gist. This past midsummer, at the invitation of Rambalkoshe and Jägermeister, @denis-kaznacheev played here, and trying to describe in words how beautiful everything was is as pointless as trying to weigh the lightness of your being.

For the 30th entry of Schmaus’ podcast series, give a warm welcome to Japanese artist Kai (aka Kaitaro Nakajima). Born in 1977 in Tokyo, Kai discovered DJing at the age of 17, spinning Hip-Hop records. It is in 2003 that the artist got into the Minimal House and Techno sphere and been actively producing since then.
His first release came circa 2005 on Sud Electronic, which led to several more on Alphahouse, Level Records and Enliven Music. Kai moved to Berlin in 2007, where he performed live for years to gain experience.
In the past decade, the artist released on major labels such as MERKUR Schallplatten, Little Helpers and Someone Else. Still based in Berlin today, Kaitaro focuses on live acts and music production.
In the opening of the live act, a solid groove comes in with complex tones and tasty drums. Aquatic organic textures followed by grand piano and strings parts create a contrast between acoustic instruments and the acousmatic production.
The mood shifts to a dreamy pad with trippy vocals, accented with sharp hi-hats, and switch again to minimalistic passages. These abstract moments display a clever drum programming, wet yet subtle FX use and tonal textures.
The artist juggles with psychedelic chord progressions, rich details and glitches in a seamless storytelling. The listener is trapped in a special bubble of sound with out of this world atmosphere.
Kai takes is drum patterns to another level with congas and bongos solos, to go back to serene and deep vibrations. We encounter old school timeless chords, dubby elements, and a super efficient sub bass all along the performance.
This set is a demonstration of movement in music, A-game sound design and unfolding narrative, which will leave the listener stunned on a final abstract note.

We present to you an incredible journey from the intimate settings of BRET, Amsterdam, VBX's main home, the after party venue that everyone seems to be talking about. This time around the dutch crew VBX teamed up with Fuse for a extended afterhours event at VBX's infamous homebase BRET, as part of the huge annual Amsterdam Dance Event. The signature sound from the London based label, and eclectic beats from the VBX artists helped this party see its way deep in to the Saturday afternoon. A combination of parties that is always sure to go down a treat. Who better to set the tone, early doors, than Fuse heavyweights Rossko and Archie Hamilton, known for their ability to control the dance floor with the special chemistry between the two of them. After several years of holding down Fuse residencies in London, and around the world, their much loved and infectious sound, is captured within this live cut you are about to experience. A journey, driven by deep bass heavy records delivering the wake up call an afters like this desires, with an up for it crowd from start to finish. It seemed fitting to feature these two artists at such a relevant time, as they start their new Arkityp project, and continue to make their stance in the world of music.
