Hello TTianna, Thank you so much for your review! The Apple Butter Bees Knees is one of our seasonal favorites and homemade apple butter makes all the difference! You can definitely take one togo next time :) Fortunately it's legal now.
The Scotch eggs are truly unique and so glad you enjoyed them, hopefully tried them with some HP or Colemans - imported sauces from the UK.
We look forward to seeing you and your wife again soon, thanks for taking the time to tell us about your experience.
Cheers,

wanted some british food so headed to this place. locatec in its own stand alone building place has an old school english taven vibe. both inside and outside. bunch of indoor seating. big menu with classic british food like bangers and hash, fish n chips, etc. decided on a sausage roll and toffee bread cake with whip cream. total damage $20. waited 10mins and got the food.
and the verdict? its good. simple and tasty. nothing mind blowing but just a nice bite. sausage roll was warm and pastry crsip and flaky and sausage plump and nice sage and seasoned flavor. and cake was warm with good sweetness and texture. skimpy on the whip cream but it was good also, try this place out. tasty. will be back for the fish n chips and curry pot pie. yum.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Haven't been here since the move from Sunset -still a fun hang serving the same great Brit pub vibes but other reviewers are totally spot on about the weird service! Our waitress was attentive at the start and food came out quickly though unceremoniously -the no eye contact/food and condiments getting sort of dropped onto the table feels like not a big deal when you read about it, but the experience really brings the energy/convo to a halt. Check then came out without a chance to order dessert or more drinks, so we awkwardly sent check back and got one more round (gotta take advantage of that Guinness on tap). And then we were like, totally forgotten about. Tried flagging down our waitress/other servers who would look our way and then kind of...ignored us? It was bizarre! We ended up having to chase them down inside the restaurant after waiting to get the check for over half an hour and almost getting a parking ticket cuz of it.
So overall, I'd def come back for trivia and bites, but the service brought the mood down in a funky way! Normally I'd chalk it up to an off night for staff but this seems like kind of the norm so...anglophiles on a schedule, you have been warned!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Steph, So sorry to hear about your experience ! Was this from yesterday, Tuesday ? I know it was not intentional and definitely were not being ignored . Sorry if this is how you felt . I hope you come the next time and have the normal stellar service we provide . We are a small family run location of 40 years and because of labor and costs and the difficult climate of running a restaurant we do only have 1 server in the day with help when we have reservations . It is not uncommon in our pub culture though to grab a drink at the bar if you are needing something and you see someone back there . I’m sure your server was busy and no mal intent !
Thanks for letting us know about your experience and know we do take our yelp reviews seriously and appreciate the feedback.
Cheers,
Ashlee
PS if you enjoy the Guinness on draft there is a promotion from Guinness until April 30th and you get a rebate on a drink with food purchase and 2 guinness ! Pretty cool one they are offering after St Patrick’s day . - Kevin A.Los Angeles, CA191231543Mar 17, 2024Updated review

Had dinner at Cat & Fiddle Restaurant again last night as I wanted to introduce a young lady friend who'd never had British food to some of the better classics... I had a solid Beef Wellington here a year ago on Xmas Eve. I had even crowed about it some to my friend. We both ordered it. It's a dish I've eaten at many restaurants and in the UK and these were really mediocre. It's supposed to be pink in the middle. Mine was well done and my date's was only a little better, looking more medium than medium rare. The problem was also with the pastry wrapping, as it was moist and fell apart mostly as you ate it... Wellington's pastry wrap is supposed to be crispy brown and I wonder if they even painted the beef with the mustard as the recipe calls for. As for the gravy, it was good and helped the mild flavor. The scotch egg appetizers didn't have the sprinkled green herbs you'll see in the photos by other reviewers. One of my favorite desserts is sticky toffee pudding and the one we were served was anything but-- a dry square piece of cake with caramel sauce and basic whipped cream a la Reddi Whip, no clotted cream or toffee caramel covering. There was barely any of it. A real letdown.
Look, I love this place - the space and draft Guinness and conscientious service - those are all on point and excellent even. Know that I WANT C&F to continue to succeed but after my two recent meals there? I have to wonder about who is at the helm in the kitchen these days. I was polite with my previous review and looked the other way at the tiniest amounts of fish under a lot of crisp in their fish and chips, but, I'm doing the restaurant and you, the readers, a disservice by being gracious. As the bill was sizable with Wellingtons running $38 apiece last night, I feel it only fair to ask that they address the decline in the quality of the food.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Kevin, Thanks so much for your review! We really appreciate it, as you know yelp is a great way for new customers to make their way to the pub.
Happy to hear you've frequented our other location as well! Thanks for the review, sorry to hear the Fish and Chips isn't your recommendation - however, keep in mind we make them with freshly battered and house and we do serve an 6 oz portion on each fish so that's 12 oz total with house made - cut fries! Fresh cut fries is rare in this town. Our Fish and Chips is a labor of love we've been serving for 40+ years !
Thanks for the feedback and we will see you soon!
Cheers,
AshleeFeb 27, 2024Previous reviewI've been patronizing The Cat & Fiddle British Pub Restaurant off and on for years now, from the original location up on Sunset Blvd to this latest iteration, on Highland Avenue, just south of the more bustling Hollywood but still in town. The ambiance and food are generally good and evocative of trips to London where I've enjoyed British fare like they serve here.
Tonight I drove there for the fish and chips as I was just hankering for that homey euro-pub vibe, some Guinness, and fried fish w vinegar and tartar. Man I miss the UK! The Guinness I'm served was draft which I always appreciate and it was well set up. My outdoor table was fine and I have to sit there as there was trivia indoors. The whole place was well patronized, which made me happy.
The waitress and service were excellent and the fish was pretty good: two smallish Icelandic cod pieces covered over in a golden and thick batter that crackles when you crunch through it w a fork, all served with chips and mushy peas. Now those who know me know I hold Robin Hood Tavern in Van Nuys in the highest of regard for their fish and chips, so this plate? I must say it did not come close to that at the 'Hood. But was it good? Sure. Just not great. And I found the fish interior to really be on the smallish side.
I leave happy enough but also found myself stopping off afterwards at Pavillions Market on my way home to grab some chicken tenders to finally crush my fried food cravings...
Fish 6/10
Chips 7/10
Mushy Peas 5/10 (green spackle!)
Tartar Sauce 8/10
Guinness 8/10
I love that they do authentic British entrees and dishes here at The Cat & Fiddle, even do a great Beef Wellington, but I think I'd skip the fish and chips here. At $23, they just narrowly miss the landing for me... - Feb 9, 20242 check-ins
Authentic English afternoon tea service!
I learned about The Cat & Fiddle Restaurant & Pub on one of my walks around the neighborhood, which is located on the Hollywood and Hancock Park border. I made an afternoon tea reservation a couple of weeks in advance via Resy to celebrate my birthday with four friends.
There is complimentary parking in the rear and metered street parking, so parking is easy if you get there early. When my party arrived, we were immediately seated in their covered open-air patio. The decor is on brand with the pub theme, so don't expect anything fancy. It was, however, very cozy and homey.
The tea took a little longer than anticipated because there were a couple of other parties enjoying the same service, but it was worth the wait. The tea tower was perfectly plated and portioned so everyone could enjoy one of everything. The food was phenomenal! The fresh scones and clotted cream were especially authentic and reminded me of my trip to the English countryside. The sausage rolls were my favorite, and I would happily come back just to order them again. They also brought out a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a candle as a birthday surprise!
Overall, excellent experience! Would come again!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Came here with unsuspectingly. Stumbled upon it via yelp. Walked inside and told that we could seat ourselves. First, sat outside. Waited a little while. No service. Moved inside. Same thing. Ordered the majority of the big hitters. Samosas and the fish and chips were actually delicious. The curry chicken pot pie was at best 3/5. Brussels sprouts were 3/5.
Would've otherwise given the place four stars. But the fact that I had to chase down someone to get napkins, utensils, beverages... the essentials, drops one starHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Randy H.La Puente, CA266177Jan 15, 2024
Had an amazing experience here. We celebrated a birthday and had a great time!
We made the mistake of not booking in advance for the afternoon tea but they made an exception for us which was very kind of them.
The food was amazing! The afternoon tea sandwiches were made in-house, scones were not too dry, beef Wellington was amazing, and the tiny cakes were delicious.
The cocktails were also really good too. We had the espresso with the orange (forgot the name) but was very impressed with the flavor combination.
The outdoor seating was nice; lots of plants and was shaded.
Definitely will be coming back! Thank you!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Love the cozy, warm vibe of a pub and that's what drew me to Cat & Fiddle. You walk in and it feels like you're walking into a hug. I do wish their indoor seating area was bigger but nothing they can really do about that. They have 3 booths, 2 communal high tops and then like 6 seats at the bar itself. They do however have a decent size patio. But I go for the ambience so I'm an indoor girlie.
On to the food...they have vegan options!! Vegan options that's not just a burger...I mean they do have a vegan burger...but they have other vegan entrees which include Shepherd's Pie and a vegan roast. They also have a few vegan appetizers. My fav is the Shepherd's Pie...it's flavorful, warming and hearty.
The only downfall for me is the service can really be hit or miss...mainly miss for me. Sitting in the bar area the bartender is your server and we've sat upwards of 15 minutes waiting just to get our drinks and order in. The last time we were there the host was surprised we hadn't been taken care of yet and kept apologizing. She was nice enough to go give him a nudge but it would be another 5 or so minutes until he came over. During this time there was no one on the patio and we were the only booth. I've noticed the issue is mainly because the bartender is more concerned about getting another round of drinks for people seated at the bar and high tops then dealing with the booths. It's definitely annoying. So the dilemma is go for the ambience and food and just know it's going to be awhile to get your order in or not go at all. I say all this but I still go back just not as often as I would if it wasn't for the service.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Rocky! Thank you so much for your review , we really appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your experience .
I am so glad you enjoyed the ambiance and the food . However, sorry to hear about the service . Since we are casual service restaurant and yes we do hire employees that serve and bartend because in a small business we have to wear many hats and cross function ! We never know when it will be especially busy since we are casual place people don’t make reservations and yes at times it can get busy we do the best we can to accommodate our guests . The check in time is within 5 minutes of a customer seated , 15 minutes is too long to wait. Have you noticed that it is with a particular employee ? We don’t normally receive these reviews so that is why I am trying to lock down the bottleneck .
Thanks so much and we look forward to seeing you soon! I’ll be happy to talk about it in person and make sure when you are in this doesn’t happen again. Just shoot me an email catandfiddlerestaurant@gmail.com and I can also put together a reservation for you !
Cheers,
