This place is darn great!! It has a little town vibe but with huge flavor!!! We ordered the vegetarian paella, bacon wrapped shrimp in sauce and stuffed crab mushrooms- I was a bit skeptical, figuring it would be lacking flavor.. and boy was I wrong! Everything was made with the perfect amount of flavor!! The servings are just right for a tapas night. For sure I'll come back and recommend it..
P.S.. they have live music, nothing extravagant- more like a classy traditional guitarist. The staff is so friendly and the Chef is my new best friend!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Maridy M.Riverside, CA564977Feb 19, 2020
Stumbled upon Viva Sevilla at the University Village while taking a stroll and thinking of what to eat for dinner. The spot had previously been TroBon before so we wandered in front of the restaurant and scrolled through their outside menu.
We decided to give them a try and the restaurant itself was very beautiful, table settings and decor were very fancy and we definitely felt under dressed! Keep in mind it was a week or less before Valentine's Day so maybe it was their pre-valentines atmosphere but it was all so very pretty.
The menu is small and right to the point which I loved. They have appetizers, drinks, and main dishes which all looked incredible. We settled on the seafood paella, tomato paste on toast as an appetizer and potatoes and tomato. Don't remember their official names, sorry!
The food came out quickly, and it was all visually so appealing and beautiful! After our food photo shoot, we dig into them and boy, we were at a loss for words. The seafood paella was amazing and so very creamy, flavorful, had a good portion of mussels, shrimp, scallops, and more seafood! The tomato paste on the toast appetizer was subtle but still full of flavor! And the potatoes with tomato sauce was also wonderful.
Overall, we will definitely be going back and trying more maybe with drinks and wines next time!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Allen W.Temple City, CA3181241Feb 24, 2020Updated review
After trying something all the menus (Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner), I would put this place at a solid 3.5/5.
I had tasted the seafood omellete, chocolate chip pancakes, seafood crepe, fried chicken waffle, mussels, crab-stuffed mushrooms, lamb chops, Tortillas Artistica, and the short ribs.
To rate my personal opinion of order of the best times to go, it would be Brunch, Dinner, Lunch.
The seafood omellete and crepe were my main dishes; both were decent at best - the shrimp were standard and the scallops had a very strong sea flavor (which is uncharacteristic of good scallops). I was disappointed with the wraps - both the crepe and egg itself were overcooked and hardened. My friend got the chocolate chip pancakes - they initially came out undercooked to the point of having the batter as a creamy center; however, they profusely apologized and offered a remake. The proper dish was fluffy and the dark chocolate chips were incorporated well.
As someone with a high preference for savory foods, I was unhappy with the fried chicken waffle. It comes with fried chicken, cole slaw, a chipotle sauce, drizzled with syrup, but to my dismay EVERY ingredient's taste profile was sugary sweet, turning the dish into a saccharine sandwich. I'd assumed at least the cole slaw or chipotle sauce would provide a tang or a savory flavor to contrast the sweetness from the syrup, but I found no solace there.
The dinner foods had the best presence flavor-wise, but the tapas aspect of the meal could easily drive the price up. The short ribs were great, with a sauce that paired well with the tenderness. The egg dish (tortillas artistica) had a very un-eggy flavor and was made better with the spicy sauce that is served beside it. The mussels, though small, had an amazing garlic flavor. My friend complained about the lamb chops, with the sauce combining with the gaminess to become a lingering, unending off aftertaste that he couldn't shake. The crab-stuffed mushrooms were smaller than I imagined, and I truly believe they use imitation crab instead of the real deal. As a UCR student, I heed others who are looking for quantity over quality to not go to dinner, but to brunch or lunch instead.
If I were to come back here again, it would definitely be for the brunch or dinner (if I won the lottery or something), and it would also be for the amazing service. Every server is courteous and attentive and ultimately made my experiences much better.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 9, 2020Previous reviewAnother day, another restaurant against the "cursed spot". I would just like to get a review out with a "student of UCR" pretense on it, and judge accordingly to my experiences at this establishment.
After my Wednesday 5:00-6:20PM class, I decided to check out this place as I'm always interested in seeing what new places close to UCR has to offer. Both the menu and the Yelp pictures looked promising, and with a friend we set out to get a taste. Our table ended up ordering four things: mussels, fried potatoes, braised beef short ribs, and Tortillas Artistica - an egg dish which was essentially a quiche. We later ordered two more things, the lamb chops and stuffed mushrooms.
Upon the delivery of our foods, one thing was clear - the restaurant really embodied the spirit of tapa cuisine and bestowed upon our table very bite-sized plates - I've actually never seen such small mussels before. However, the mixture they used to flavor the mussels was full of aromatic garlic, which I loved. From a Yelp photo, I was under the impression there would be bread served with it, but alas bread was nowhere to be found; it would have been perfect for the leftover sauce! The fried potato had a nice tomato dressing that was flavorful and packed a bit of heat, though the potatoes were varied in their degree of preparedness, ranging from a nice starchy mush to a tough uncooked bite. The tortillas artistica was unfortunately disappointing - being a huge egg fan the flavors inside mixed a bit too much and became an unrecognizable and odd tasting medium, with a dressing that helped very little. Also, I found some remnants of plastic wrap stuck under my plate.
Moving on to the main courses, the braised beef short rib was actually quite good, but a bit small for the price. The sauce paired well with the mashed potatoes and the richness matched the short rib well. The lamb chop was a bit too gamey for my tastes, and the herbs may have forced the flavor to stay in my friend's mouth for an uncomfortably long amount of time. The stuffed mushrooms also fell short - these mushrooms were seriously miniscule; additionally, I am pretty sure the crab is actually imitation crab - it had the strong flavor of imitation crab, and along with the beurre blanc it really flavor punches even though it was so tiny.
All in all, the food ended up leaning on slight above average, though as a student I wouldn't recommend this for anything other than special occasions, as prices rack up quick. There was no checks on us by the chef but eyes of ambiguous opinion from the idle staff, and the general vibe of this place just whispered "not for students".
The bill ended up being $42, and with our stomachs still wanting more we just went across the UV to get some noodles. I wish you luck Viva Sevilla, I'll be back to try your breakfast/lunch. - Dexter G.Chino Hills, CA127161Mar 4, 2020

Super delicious food, nice wine selection and beer on tap.
Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality.
We shared six dishes and all were excellent.
The Mussels au Gratin are not to be missed!
I appreciate that they offer Spanish wines by the glass as well.
Can't wait to go back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Richard R.Victorville, CA689131Feb 4, 2020
This place is fantastic! They just opened, so there is some growing pains, but the staff is super great, and the chef is very friendly. He came out several times to check on us, and even gave is a creme brulee on the house for desert!
Pro tip: the best item on the menu hands down is the crab stuffed mushrooms. Do not forget to try them while you are here. 5/5 stars, we will absolutely be back and bringing friends.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Xavier P.Beverly Grove, Los Angeles, CA20143Feb 6, 2020

I've got a feeling this is going to be one of our regular hangouts. Why because when you first walk in you feel welcomed. The food prices are excellent the quality is just as good we tried almost everything on the menu for our first time here because each dish was so delicious and tasty we just kept going. My favorite The short rib dish, second the paella, my wife loved the paella I thought it was a little too mushy.
The Valencia salad will be a perfect summer evening light bite with a glass of red vino
And add the sea bass bites smothered in a carrot sauce....
Sorry I didn't take any pictures ( to busy eating) but trust me on this one this is a little diamond just off the freeway. Definitely a five-star experienceHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
