Miroslav Kultyshev is a young Russian pianist, prize-winner of international competitions, teacher, and associate professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Miroslav has collaborated with Valery Gergiev, Vasily Sinaisky, Charles Dutoit, and Vladimir Ashkenazy. This is his debut release on Melodiya.
The Siberian State Symphony Orchestra (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), a collective founded almost half a century ago, one of the leading orchestras in Siberia, has recorded more than once for the label with pianists Dmitry Masleev and Ekaterina Mechetina. Vladimir Lande is a Russian and American conductor, oboist, and pianist who studied conducting with Ilya Musin. He has worked with the St. Petersburg State Academic Orchestra, the Washington Soloists Chamber Orchestra, and the COSMIC Symphony Orchestra. He has been directing the Siberian State Symphony Orchestra since 2015.
The program is intriguing for its comparison of two opuses by Sergei Prokofiev – Concerto No. 2 (written in the conservatory years) and the last symphony (completed shortly before his death) – which cover almost forty years of the composer’s life. Despite the recognizable characteristic features of the composer’s style, the works differ both in musical language and the context of creation.
