Musical genius Fabrizio Paterlini has brought his new single and video to life this week for “Eyes Closed,” which has us over the moon for the noteworthy artist. With millions of Spotify streams under his belt, Paterlini is back at it again with a bold and enchanting new piece. The song is a pure improvisation, played on the day of the recording.
The atmosphere of the ancient villa in which we were recording, together with the softness of the sound obtained by the felt mounted between the hammer and the string of the grand piano, led Paterlini to discover this unknown territory, in which everything is light and ethereal. “The result is in a silky melody, which can only by listened with eyes closed,” he shares. We had the honor to catch up with Fabrizio Paterlini for an exclusive interview which you will find below, on a very special Video Voyageur.
1. Tell us the story of this song, why did you choose to visualize this song specifically?
The song is part of a short movie, “Transitions”, which has been recorded in the beautiful Villa Dionisi (Italy) last summer. The hall is gorgeous and so is the sound that it gives to the felted piano: elegance and softness melt together in this video!

2. What was the inspiration behind this video (visuals, storyline, etc.)?
The short movie is all about me visiting the Villa, watching the beautiful details and walking in the huge garden outside the house. In this space, i present my album “Transitions” playing the grand piano, in the main hall.

3. What was the process of making this video?
Since “Eyes closed” is pure improvisation, the video as well is “one take”: Edoardo Cantini (the director) wanted to enhance the sense of improvisation of the music shooting the performance directly, only with his camera, walking around the piano. And the video is the result of this.
