Paul Desmond is the saxophonist of 'The Dave Brubeck Quartet'.
Paul Desmond was born on November 25th, 1924 in San Francisco, California. Shortly after, Desmond developed his own soft and melodic playing style that contrasted the fast, brash bebop style that was popular at that time. His playing was said to have classical music stylistic influences.
Desmond started to study jazz at a local college in San Francisco. After playing with local bands around town, he formed his own jazz combo. This group consisted of the well-known pianist Dave Brubeck. Soon after playing with Brubeck, Desmond’s career started to advance and he played the majority of his career in “The Dave Brubeck Quartet”.
Desmond is a legendary jazz saxophonist who is known for his mainstream hit Take Five, which he premiered with his lifelong friend and collaborator Dave Brubeck, on the album “Time Out.” Paul was also a leader in the “West Coast Jazz Style” of California during the late 40s and early 50s.
