SAN ANTONIO - A large number of explosive materials were discovered in Far Southeast Bexar County this morning, prompting evacuations and a bomb squad response.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., the Bexar County Sheriff's Office received a report of explosives found in the 8400 block of Stuart Road. Family members cleaning out a residence stumbled upon the explosives and immediately called authorities.

The Bexar County Fire Marshal's Office was dispatched to the scene and contacted the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) bomb squad.

Upon arrival, the SAPD bomb squad found a significant amount of explosives and opted for a controlled detonation on-site. As a precaution, evacuations were ordered for all residences within 1,000 feet of the location.

Those residing within the 1,000-foot radius are urged to evacuate their homes and find alternative shelter until the detonation is complete. Authorities are assisting residents who may require help evacuating.

Residents outside the evacuation zone but in the vicinity are advised to shelter in place in case of flying debris from the detonation.

School districts within the evacuation zone are deemed safe due to their distance from the detonation site. However, parents with children attending these schools should contact the school directly if they wish to pick their child up early.

The controlled detonation is expected to occur between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. This timeframe may change depending on whether additional explosive materials are discovered.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed the presence of a significant amount of TNT and an unidentified form of explosive materials.

Authorities acknowledge concerns raised by residents regarding the evacuation order. Efforts are underway to accommodate those who may not have the means to evacuate independently.

Details regarding arrests have not yet been released.
