With the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibition currently being held in the MMA’s Anna Wintour Costume Center, it was an obvious choice for this year’s theme. Guests are being asked to adhere to the rather cryptic ‘The Garden of Time’ dress code, meaning that they can let their imaginations run wild.
As ever, the guest list will be a who’s who of film, TV, music, fashion and sport. The co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny and Anna Wintour — not a bad start!
And with the hottest ticket in town costing a reported $75,000, it’s no wonder that the word ‘exclusive’ is so synonymous with this event.
Doja Cat stole the show last year, dressing as… well, a cat. So it will be fascinating to see who will stand out the most this year, following in the unforgettable footsteps of Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Grimes and Cardi B.

The 2024 Met Gala is taking place tonight, on Monday, May 6. For the fourth year in a row, Vogue will host the night’s exclusive livestream, where you can watch all of the action from the red carpet in real time.
This year, the Vogue Met Gala livestream will be hosted by actor Gwendoline Christie, producer and actor La La Anthony, and model Ashley Graham. Multi-hyphenate Emma Chamberlain will return as Vogue’s special correspondent, to interview some of the biggest stars on the carpet. Meanwhile, this year’s theme—“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”—will celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition of the same name; The exhibit will feature approximately 250 items drawn from the museum’s permanent collection, some rarely seen in public before, and displayed in entirely new ways. The 2024 Met Gala will celebrate the opening of The Costume Institute’s new spring exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. The exhibition—which will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 10th to September 2nd this year—will spotlight 250 items drawn from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, including some very rarely seen in public before. All of the works will be displayed in entirely new ways—utilizing elements such as video animation, CGI, AI, and more.
Every year, the Met Gala provides The Costume Institute with its primary source of funding for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, operations, and capital improvements.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City will be swarmed on this evening by beloved musicians, transformative artists, emblem designers, famed actors, and celebrity influencers to celebrate The Costume Institute’s spring 2024 exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. The co-chairs for the evening include Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and Bad Bunny, while Vogue’s red-carpet hosts will be La La Anthony, Gwendoline Christie, and Ashley Graham, alongside special correspondent Emma Chamberlain.
This year’s theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” – which is not a reference the Disney fairytale. Inside the exhibit, 250 pieces from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection will be showcased, some dating back to the Elizabethan period. The idea is to reimagine fragile designs that can never be worn again in new ways through CGI, light projections, soundscaping, and video animation.
Guests will follow a dress code of “The Garden of Time,” a nod to JG Ballard’s 1962 tale. The story details Count Axel, his Countess, and their dwindling garden as an angry mob descends on their peaceful home and nursery of crystalline flowers.
Along with all four co-chairs and the event’s organiser Anna Wintour, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Kendall Jenner, Uma Thurman, Sarah Paulson, Cara Delevingne, and Olivia Rodrigo are expected to be at tonight’s Met Gala, according to a 13 April Page Six report.
Fans have lined up outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art this afternoon, in anticipation of celebrities’ upcoming arrival at the fashion extravaganza. While outside of the museum in New York City, people were also given pieces of tonight’s red carpet, which were green and beige.
The 2024 Met Gala hosts are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth. For the most part, however, the 450-plus person guest list is kept completely under wraps. That being said, stars such as repeat attendees Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, Bradley Cooper, Billy Porter and others can be expected to be in attendance.
