Boats destroyed in massive Long Island inferno, one man injured

Four boats went up in flames in a large inferno at a Long Island business on Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement sources said.

The boats erupted in flame around 2:15 p.m. in a rear yard on Fire Island Avenue in Babylon and were virtually destroyed in the large blaze, cops said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. One man suffered burns and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Video of the blaze obtained by Eyewitness News shows giant plumes of thick, black smoke issuing into the sky as firefighters struggled to extinguish the flames.

The inferno comes a day after at least 25 people were killed in a tragic boat fire while on a diving trip off Santa Cruz Island in Southern California.
