ORANGE Asks SXSW: Day Wave, Seratones, ELEL
To gear up for South by Southwest, the ORANGE Music Staff polled some of our favorite artists playing next week, and nothing was off-limits. From the silly to the serious to the mysterious, their answers made us love them even more. Check out the their responses below, and be sure to catch them live next week amid the festival madness.

What album can you not stop listening to right now?
“Loveless” by My Bloody Valentine.
What was your favorite song in middle school?
“Echoes” by Pink Floyd.
What color is your music?
Blue.
What food best describes your band?
Apples and almond butter.
What’s your weirdest tour experience?
Running out of gas in the middle of nowhere in Texas and having to walk to a very weird random person’s house to ask them for a lift to get some. We gave him 20 bucks and we think he only gave us about 3 dollars’ worth. Somehow we still ended up making it to soundcheck on time.

What album can you not stop listening to right now?
Jorge Ben Jor’s “Samba Esquema Novo.”
What was your favorite song in middle school?
Old Dirty Bastard’s “Got Your Money” featuring Kelis.
What color is your music?
Blue in green.
What food best describes your band?
Bhindi masala.
What’s your weirdest tour experience?
After we played Secret Stages Festival last year, our transmission crapped out and we were stranded in Birmingham. Fortunately, our very gracious Couchsurfing hostess let us stay with her the extra days and treated us to the most divine pasta bolognese I’ve ever tasted. We were sorting out our options for getting the van fixed, none of which we could afford, when we got a call from our friend Jofton. He suggested that he and some of the Highland Brigade drive from Shreveport to Birmingham, hitch us to the back of their newly purchased (and mostly legal) school bus and haul us back home. While I’m not allowed to divulge details, I can say that we made it home safely.

What’s your most treasured article of clothing?
My orange hoodie I got from H&M probably 7 years ago. It's got this crazy pattern will little robots that say "I am an human.” There's holes in the elbows, but I just still love it so much. It's perfect.
What album can you not stop listening to right now?
Vampire Weekend’s "Modern Vampires of the City.” I pretty much haven't been able to stop listening to it for about two years now! Blows me away. It's just so fresh and soulful.
What was your favorite song in middle school?
Well I went to junior high, but my favorite song was probably “Motownphilly” by Boyz II Men.
What color is your music?
I asked Freddy [ELEL’s trumpet player] about this one and he went into how each song, based on its key, is related to a spot on the clock which is related to a color on the color wheel, which is all very true, but it'd take about 10 pages to do it that way. So, I'll just say, turquoise mostly but sometimes magenta.
What food best describes your band?
Tequila and sodas.
What’s your weirdest tour experience?
We were traveling from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. We had a couple of hours until sound check when our tire exploded and we got stranded on a bridge on the interstate with our van and trailer. Had to get a tow truck to get the van but loaded all the gear into the van first. [It was] packed tight even though we took all the seats out and put those in the trailer. I went with the tow truck, and everyone else crammed into a taxi that drove from Baton Rouge (50 miles away). [We] left the trailer on the interstate. [We] had to make the show! We rolled up to the Varsity, loaded directly to the stage [with a] sold out room watching and just immediately started. It was insane.
