American Idol: Mooresville’s Shannon O’Hara In Top 24

Mooresville's Shannon O'Hara made it to the top 24 on "American Idol with her performance of "Unconditionally."

MOORESVILLE, NC — Mooresville native Shannon O’Hara made it to the top 24 on "American Idol" with her touching performance of Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally.”

Last month, O'Hara snagged her ticket to Hollywood March 18, impressing the judges with her rendition of Adele's “When We Were Young.”

American Idol 2018 continued its journey, closing out Hollywood Week with the solo round before sending the remaining contestants on to the Showcase, their first chance to perform in front of a full audience. From there, the 50 remaining contestants sat down, one-by-one, with judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan for their Final Judgment.

“I’ve dreamt about going to Hollywood my entire childhood, and now, finally being here, getting advice from vocal coaches and musicians — it’s incredible,” O’Hara said during her solo round performance. “I can feel myself growing as an artist and I don’t want that to end.”

For her showcase performance — her first in front of an audience — O’Hara boldly chose to sing judge Katy Perry’s song, “Unconditionally” The song selection brought the pop start to tears, cheers from the crowd and the judges to their feet in a standing ovation.

It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster as several fan favorites were sent home and others made it through to the next round. Heading into the Top 24 solos next Sunday will be another level of challenge, followed by All-Star Duets on Monday with artists like Bebe Rexha, Luis Fonsi, Lea Michele, Sugarland, and Aloe Blacc.
