Richmond Kickers defender Hugh Roberts was named to the all-USL first team and teammate Yudai Imurai got a second-team berth in voting conducted among club management and a league-wide media panel.
Roberts, who played every minute of every match, was the anchor of a back line that posted 13 shutouts and allowed but 26 regular-season goals. He delivered one of the season’s more memorable goals: a last-gasp header against Cincinnati that enabled the Kickers to snatch a 1-1 draw in the final moments of stoppage time. Roberts has been designated as a finalist for the league’s defender of the year award.
Imura, a midfielder, led the Kickers with 10 goals and 22 points in USL competition.
