This hit featured the 2 songwriters, P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri in the band. Their second SA hit, ‘Pa Pa Doo Ron Ron’, would feature South African musician’s using The Fantastic Baggys‘ name under licence. ‘Tell ‘em I’m Surfing’ would be the only song to feature the word ‘surf’ or a derivative thereof in the song’s title which is quite remarkable given that The Beach Boys had 8 hits make our charts and none of them had ‘surf’, ‘surfer’ or ‘surfing’ in the title. ‘Tell ‘em I’m Surfing’ would be kept off the top spot by Roger Williams’ ‘Lara’s Theme (From Dr Zhivago)’ for its first week at 2, then by The Troggs’ ‘With A Girl Like You’ for the next 2 weeks.
