As the other iconic aircraft of “Crimson Skies,” the Hughes P21-J Devastator simultaneously possesses a fantastical X-wing look, but also a “this could totally exist” feel. I’ve been obsessed with the setting and story of Crimson Skies ever since I first set eyes on the FASA tabletop game on a shelf of a game shop at the mall way back in 1998. One of the things that compelled me to experiment with and learn 3D modeling, texturing, and rendering as a hobbyist was seeing those awesome 3D renders of the fantastical aircraft of the game’s alternate 1930s setting on the back of the box and wondering: “how’d they do that?” So, finally, I’ve tackled recreating some of the planes myself!
This specific aircraft belongs to Nathan Zachary, the dashing Errol Flynn-style hero of the PC and Xbox games.
