Kday! C5 Japan 2015 Coverage…Part 1…

On my bucket list of automotive events worldwide that I will attempt to attend in my lifetime, the Kday series is definitely up near the top. For the most part, I think I’ve gone to many of the places that I’ve always wanted to go but unfortunately, I have yet to go to Kday. I’ve been covering the events as long as I can remember but it is always through the help of Shota Mori’s great photography work. The timing just isn’t right because I am typically planning my own event as well so I have to allocate resources to get the event going. Traveling during these months is just difficult and its really hard to explain to my bank account how traveling to Japan and then going to Las Vegas for SEMA right after is a good idea. I don’t have endless amount of financial resources so sacrifices need to be made. Takeshi Kobayashi has been a dear friend of mine for years now and I really want to support him. I think I’ll make my way out to Sendai eventually for Kday, I just haven’t quite figured out when. As most of you know by now, I absolutely love Japan and everything about it. Car culture in Japan is great but what I also enjoy are the people and the interactions. Kday seems like a very private event filled with many friends so I want to be there to experience the camaraderie among them…

I’m very fortunate to have Shota Mori in Japan because he has a great eye for photography. His stuff has gotten so much better over time that now I don’t even have to retouch the photos in any way. He just shoots great photos, processes them, and then they are ready for me to mark and upload to the site. Obviously I wish I could be there but I feel like even if I was there, I’d rather have him shoot the event while I video blog or something, or just hang out, haha. In any case, I have probably like a three-part series for you guys covering most of everything at Kday. Takeshi’s events have always been consistently good so you already know there will be some good cars in the sets to come. It starts off a bit slow as Mori documents their journey there but man, I gotta say, even I was pretty surprised to see some of the cars at Kday. You’ll see a black Integra Type R later in these sets that is just incredible. Stay tuned for that. In the meantime, follow Shota Mori’s journey to Kday C5…

His coverage begins at a place called U.T. Store in the Tochigi Prefecture of Japan. U.T. is similar to like a JHPUSA here where it is a parts supplier for Japanese automotive enthusiasts. The owner, Masato Muraki is a fellow enthusiasts whom I had the chance to meet with last year when I went to Gunma to hang out with the L2P guys. He has an NSX that has slowly evolved over time and Shota is good friends with him. You guys get to see some of the cars that gather at his shop for the convoy to Sendai, which is about a three-hour or so drive….

Sitting outside of U.T. Store was this really immaculate EF9 Civic Si-R on RS Watanabe wheels. This thing is so clean it looks like it just rolled out of the car dealership in the 80s…
