about

Listen to our dear friend, supporter, and accomplished electronic music composer: Jon Lyle Smith aka jlsmith, returning to the Church after a long hiatus without releasing albums with us. He arrives today with a brand new first-hand item for our dear listeners: the album "TranSentience", which is truly magnificent and a must for anyone who enjoys good immersive music. If you've heard his previous musical works on our netlabel, then you've certainly reveled in the best of rhythmic Electronica this man has produced in recent years and has given us permission to release this excerpt from his powerful and vast discography. TranSentience comes to add musical value to Bandcamp's Underground music scene with a thoughtful sounding firecracker. The artist, who focused on Drone Music production to craft the album, composed nine tracks where he demonstrates his incredible experiments with layers of colorful and relaxing drones.

"An old friend of mine in this city of Baghdad, echoing unconsciously an ancient belief, once told me that if ear and spirit can be cleared of the din of this world, one can hear at rare and high moments the separate notes that the worlds give forth, the sun, the earth, the moon and the stars, as they move and vibrate according to the law of their being."
-- E. S. DROWER, PEACOCK ANGEL: Being some Account of Votaries of a Secret Cult and their Sanctuaries

Much of the material collected for these tracks was improvised and recorded late in the evening, over the months of spring/early summer of 2022. To create the audio I used virtual synthesizer emulations via a host DAW, where electronic sound was created/recorded in the moment, and parameters were adjusted on the spot. Many tracks were only minimally edited/processed later. The compositions are disguised as psycho-acoustic works; different waveforms being intuitively crossmodulated, distorted, filtered etc. with the synth's on-board FX controls, thus producing Radionic(?) transmissions, liberating alternate neuroscapes in the Mind.

Here are quiet modulating industrial drones and high-order atonalities, adamantine cubes and triangles of metallic/glassy tone-clusters, obscure aethers of scintillating harsh light and shadowed lattices, intense sidebands and inharmonic timbres. With good headphones and listening with eyes closed, one may often achieve a correspondence
between the outer ear and the Inner Eye.

“RAGE4KYEV” was composed of processed 'found-sound' in addition to electronic synthesis.
