Firstly, yes I know this picture isn’t an accurate representation of what the current members are, but I just can’t find a shot without Sohee in it! I will not be including her in this post though, since she has officially left the group, but I will be including Sunye, because her fate is a lot more confused.
Many of you might know this already, but Wonder Girls was actually the first kpop group I ever listened to. Girls’ Generation was the second, and the first one where I learned a member’s name, and SHINee was the third, and the one that really captured me. So, while Wonder Girls was the first kpop group that started to draw me in, I didn’t take the time to learn the names of the members until much later. I still don’t know much about them though, so don’t expect to much from my commentary today. The two members that first caught my attention in that first video are still my favorites, and most probably always will be. With that said, let’s get this started!
4. Hyerim
Birth name: Woo Hye Rim
Stage name: Hyerim / Lim
Birthday: September 1, 1992
Official height: 167 cm
Position: Maknae, Lead Rapper, Vocalist
Comment: Hyerim wasn’t there when I first discovered Wonder Girls, but she was there when I learnt the names of all the members. I was very confused by all the member changes in the beginning, guys. It’s weird. It still really confuses me sometimes.
As I wrote here, Hyerim looks younger than she is. This picture here is an exception of that, because she actually looks like a woman! And not a teenager, like she normally does. Hyerim is for sure pretty, and as I’ve said before, her eyes are stunning.
She can’t sing, that’s for sure. It’s not that it’s painful to listen to her, but I’d rather hand her parts over to one of the other girls.
To be completely honest, I don’t really care much about Hyerim. She’s never interested me.
3. Yeeun
Birth name: Park Ye Eun
Stage name: Yeeun / Yenny
Birthday: May 26, 1989
Official height: 165 cm
Position: Lead Vocalist
Comment: I don’t know much about Yeeun. I hear so much about how nice she’s supposed to be, and her voice is nice, but besides that I really don’t know much.
She’s beautiful in her own way, and she looks like someone who’d be a good mother. I don’t know if that makes sense, but that’s what I feel from her.
As I just said, her voice is nice. She’s one of the members who can actually sing! She’s not my favorite voice in the group, but she always does well enough.
2. Sunye
Birth name: Min Sun Ye
Stage name: Sunye / Sun
Birthday: August 12, 1989
Official height: 162 cm
Position: Leader, Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer
Comment: I’m really confused as to what’s going on with Sunye. I mean, she got married and left for Canada. Then she had a child. But then she renewed her contract! And now she’s apparently going to Haiti for 5 years. I don’t know what’s going on, and I’m going to need some clarity. I’d support Sunye as the leader of Wonder Girls, or as not that anymore, but I need to know what to support.
I think Sunye’s the most beautiful member of Wonder Girls, for sure. This picture here doesn’t completely do her justice, because she really is quite stunning.
Her voice is definitely my favorite. She doesn’t always get to show it, and seeing her pushed to the side to make room for bad singers, like Hyerim and Sohee, has definitely annoyed me, but when she really gets to sing a song that works for her, it’s great. She has a very nice, and memorable, voice. (Her voice is my favorite, if that wasn’t clear.)
1. Yubin

Stage name: Yubin
Birthday: October 4, 1988
Official height: 163 cm
Position: Main Rapper, Sub-Vocalist
Comment: I thought Yubin was the coolest from that very first video I saw. I liked her rapping, and she had a sass and a sexiness that I could really get into. And she still does. She’s definitely the sex appeal of the group, and I’d love for her to bring that out more. There was talk about her doing a unit promotion with Fei of Miss A, and I think that’d be just perfect! My two sexy biases from JYP’s two girl groups together? Yes, please!
While I don’t think Yubin’s a great rapper, I do think she’s one of the better female rappers there are in kpop. That doesn’t say much, since most of them are terrible, but it still means that she stands out in a good way. Her rapping never ever bothers me, like many other girls’ does.

I know that this post was slightly shorter than they normally are, but that’s because I really don’t have that much to say about these girls. Yes, they were my first group, and therefore they’ll always mean something, but I’m not at all that attached to them. Which is why I’ve waited this long to do their profile.

Top of the Kpops 
WG was my first Kpop girl group. I loved “Nobody” (back when it was new and not ridiculously overplayed and put in 4 languages), Tell Me, So Hot, and the other early hits. I was excited when they were preparing for a US debut, but due to some poor decisions on JYP’s part, that was actually the kiss of death for the group. They will always be a “classic” Kpop girl group to me, but I don’t really understand why everyone is so upset and in denial about the fact that the group is basically over, even if it’s not “official.” Sun is married with a baby. Sohee is gone. The other 3 are totally inactive. WG was a great idol group back in the day, but we have tons and tons of groups doing the “retro” concept now to fill the void.
Those three songs that you mentioned were the first I heard, and I played them absurdly much. And yes, trying to debut them in the US was a really dumb decision on JYP’s part.
It makes me a little sad to see them disappear, since they were my first group, but I guess it’s time for us all to move on.
I really don’t think WG is going to have a comeback as a group in the short term. JYPE has made that really clear.
I don’t care about Sunye’s contract status because it is too complex. It is complex not because of Sunye’s decision but rather, how the company is going to handle ‘WG’ as a product. We don’t know what is the implication of Sunye re-signing or not re-signing the contract. People might be puzzled why did Sunye re-sign and then go to Haiti for 5 years… but from a company’s point of view, doing so will allow them to continue to market the group. If Sunye does not re-sign the contract, it will mean JYPE cannot be putting out photos of WG or using WG name because Sunye did not allow herself to be.
Ok, now on to each member.
Lim – not a great singer, not a good rapper, not much charms, no outstanding talent. she can speak english, korean, cantonese and some mandarin… but truthfully, she is not that good at speaking/engaging. while she is fluent with the language, she isn’t very good at expressing.
yeeun – she is a decent singer but somehow over-rated in terms of vocal ability. her vocals and vocal color is nowhere as appealing as sunye’s. her strength is her composing skills and she should really focus more on that.
sunye – great vocals but never (or maybe she didn’t want to) get to showcase it in wg songs. probably no longer interested in the fame and fortune.
yubin – not a very good rapper, but has her charms and uniqueness. has limited option to play around with in terms of career progression.
No, I don’t think so either. I’m wishing for some unit stuff with Yubin though. Or some featurings.
The whole Sunye thing is just very confusing. And it all happened so fast! One minute there was a dating ban and she was “single”, the next she was married and expecting a baby.
Yeah, Lim doesn’t really shine for me either.
I’ve heard that Yeeun’s supposed to be a good composer, but I’ve never seen an example. Do you know a song she’s composed?
Yes, Sunye is probably just not interested anymore. I wish she had gotten to shine before though, since she can outsing anyone in the group with ease.
Yubin isn’t a great rapper, but I like her style for some reason. I really hope she gets to do some kind of promotions.
