SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Two sport star Sarea Alexander (San Antonio/MacArthur HS) was named the 2015-16 University of the Incarnate Word Female Athlete of the Year on Wednesday following a vote by UIW head coaches and athletic administrators.

Alexander ran away with the award after a fabulous sophomore season in volleyball and track & field.  She led all UIW female athletes with four UIW Female Athlete of the Week awards throughout the 2015-16 school year.  In order to be eligible for the award, an athlete had to win at least one UIW Female Athlete of the Week award.

During the volleyball season, Alexander started every match at middle blocker.  She was the only player on the team to start every match.  She led the team with 87 blocks while averaging 1.53 kills per set with a .205 attack percentage.  She was named to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate All-Tournament Team.

Alexander had a dominant track season as a long and triple jumper.  She was named the Southland Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year after winning the long jump and coming in as runner-up in the triple jump.  She set school records in both events with a leap of 20-4.5 in the long jump and 42-2.75 in the triple jump.  She was also the Southland Conference champion in the indoor long jump and set a school record with a jump of 19-9.  She set the indoor triple jump record during the year with a mark of 39-7.75.  She was the Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week on May 2.  She won the long jump and triple jump at four different meets throughout the season and was ranked 36^th in the nation in both events.

Alexander finished with 52 points in the year end voting.  She easily eclipsed the rest of the nominees.  Rainy Castaneda (Laredo/United HS), the 2014-15 Female Athlete of the Year, came in second with 20.5 points and Autumn Lockley (Leander/Leander HS) was third with 19 points.  The UIW Male Athlete of the Year will be released on June 15 and the UIW Student-Athlete of the Year will be released on June 22.
