The concept of the collaborative models of mentoring shifts the focus of mentoring from the top-down approach of institutions assigning mentors to mentees to a more independent approach with the focus on mentee. Mentees develop their own relationship networks in relation to their particular needs. Earlier notion of one to one mentor relationship (dyadic model) being superior to a network of many developmental mentoring relationships has been proved wrong. There are many advantages of mentoring circles/group mentoring/network mentoring. Individuals gain access to networks, reduction in feelings of isolation, greater connectivity, increased confidence and commitment, career progression, knowledge acquisition, and better understanding of the culture. In spite of all the advantages (mentioned above) associated with collaborative mentoring models, such as mentoring circle or network mentoring or group mentoring, the implementation of these models compared to traditional one-to-one model (dyadic model) of mentoring is very rare. The critical success factors in implementing these innovative collaborative models include; a commitment from all the parties involved, mutual trust, confidentiality, rapport amongst circle or network members and voluntary attendance. It should be seen as one of the many developmental activities undertaken to strengthen higher education. Key words Mentoring, Higher education institutions, Network mentoring, mentoring circles, Group mentoring, Collaborative mentoring

Review of mentoring in Higher Education2023 •
Mentoring relationships between a senior, experienced faculty member and a junior employee, between a faculty member and an undergraduate or graduate student, or between a senior and a junior student is essential in higher education. The current review aims to emphasize the necessity of establishing organized mentorship programs at national institutions to enhance academic performance, teaching/learning effectiveness, knowledge and skill development, growth and development, research productivity, and community engagement. The mentor and mentee both benefit from the mentoring relationship. Academic advising, preceptor supervision, and supervision of graduation projects are different from the mentoring relationship as they focus on only one aspect of the relationship, whether it is the study plan, the study session, or the project, respectively. Mentoring is a mutually beneficial relationship that calls for integrity, decency, self-assurance, trust, and respect. Educational institutes and colleges should set up a committee to establish a well-organized mentoring program with all the necessary templates for recruiting mentors and mentees, and also for annual evaluation and feedback from all parties involved.

The study also concludes that most successful mentorship usually evolve into friendship with both partners learning and providing support for each other. This paper contributes in the exist...

ABSTRACT Introduction:Mentoring networks constitute an effective mentoring model in academic medicine and significantly add to the traditional dyadic mentor-mentee relationship. There is an unmet educational need for medical faculty to recognize the importance and characteristics of effective mentoring networks and to develop tools and strategies to appraise and construct strong, individualized mentoring networks. Methods: An interactive educational session on developmental mentoring networks for physicians and scientists in an academic environment was designed. This session can be presented as part of a series on mentoring topics or as a stand-alone module. Results: Using preassigned readings and a mentoring network mapping exercise, participants were able to describe their current mentoring relationships and identify strengths and opportunities for enhancing their effectiveness. Discussion: A structured educational session is a useful approach towards advancing the ability of academic mentors to help create optimally effective mentoring networks. The learning environment is enhanced by the interactive nature of the session when used in an interdisciplinary cohort of faculty participants. CITATION Christou H, Dookeran N, Haas A, et al. Peer mentoring is a helping process in which a more advanced undergraduate student helps a beginner and proposes to enable the development of all the actors involved in the process. Although the main focus is the mentee, it is known that this process is not limited to the formation of the mentee, bringing significant benefits to the facilitators, the mentors. In addition, in this model, teachers (tutors) participate helping mentors in planning meetings, this relationship is very important for the development of the veteran student. Objective: to evaluate the mentor's perception in the peer mentoring process and how it helps him/her in personal, academic and professional development. Method: a quantitative and qualitative research was carried out with objective and discursive questions, statistically analyzed and divided into categories by Minayo's thematic content analysis. Conclusions of the work: the main skills developed and considered by the mentors as most relevant were communication, empathy, oratory, group dynamics, planning and leadership. Through discourse analysis, three categories were found: Personal development; Academic and professional skills; Reflections on mental health. Thus, it was observed that mentors have the opportunity to develop important skills for their personal and professional development. Reaffirming that mentoring does not only produce benefits for the mentee, but also for the facilitator of the process, the mentor.

The primary purpose is to present an intricate and realistic view of mentoring, to describe its potential benefits and limitations, and to illustrate the various forms of developmental relationships that can exist in work settings in Higher Education. The findings are useful to Higher Education because issues surrounding the educator’s shortage are addressed.
