With internationally beloved K-pop group Twice days from taking their Twicelights World Tour to the U.S., a major announcement was just made about one of its members. Unfortunately, Mina will not be a part of upcoming stops on the tour, according to a statement from the girl group's agency, JYP Entertainment.

"Mina is currently struggling with sudden extreme anxiety and insecurity towards performing on stage," JYPE shared in both Korean and English on Twice's fan message board early Thursday morning. "No exact diagnosis has been identified yet, and we are consulting with several medical professionals to verify the cause in detail."

While stigmas against openly talking about mental health struggles still exist in South Korea, they are slowly but surely falling away. With this in mind, JYPE's candor about Mina's condition is refreshing and progressive. K-pop stars, let alone girl groups and their entertainment companies, rarely address anxiety and other disorders that may affect one's emotional, psychological, and social well-being in such a direct, open way. An expectation to be as close to perfect as possible at all times often holds idols and agencies back from doing so.

"Health of our artist is our top priority," JYPE added, "so we will do everything possible to provide the best possible measures including medical treatment and sufficient rest for Mina’s recovery." This part of the statement was especially reassuring for Twice fans, knowing that JYPE not only prioritizes their artists' physical health but also their mental health. The agency seems to be cognizant of the fact the members of Twice can only be the best they can possibly be if they feel their best — physically and emotionally. Once, as Twice fans are officially called, also took to Twitter to share their words of encouragement and support for Mina during this difficult time.

Thankfully, K-pop stars are becoming more and more open about discussing their struggles with mental health than ever before. As they do so, they are helping normalize having honest conversations, like JYPE's, and will hopefully encourage others — not only in the industry but also their fans — to get the help they need and deserve.

You can catch the other eight members of Twice on their first-ever U.S. tour starting on July 17. They'll be kicking things off in Los Angeles and making their way to Mexico City, Newark, and Chicago.
