David Castle

About the author

Dr. David Castle is Canada Research Chair in Science and Society at University of Ottawa. He is appointed to the Faculty of Arts where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy, and holds a cross appointment to the Faculty of Law (Common Law Section). His interests include the philosophy of the natural sciences, social aspects of new technology, especially biotechnology and genetics, and science and society. His research currently focuses on the interaction between science and society, including democratic engagement, regulation and governance, and intellectual property and knowledge management. He has published dozens of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and several books on the social dimensions of science, technology and innovation. Castle has held several major research awards, and has considerable experience leading strategic research initiatives and research project management. In addition, he has consulted widely to government on such issues as the impact of national technology transfer policies and programs, intellectual property strategies for the health research and development sector, and the role of non-scientific considerations in the regulation of science and technology. Castle also acts as a consultant to life sciences industries.
