Augusta University released a first look at the future Midco Arena, which will be home to the university's and the state's first-ever NCAA Division I hockey team, the Vikings, starting next year.

A new video rendering released on Twitter this week from the college shows the inside of the 154,000 square-foot area that will feature 3,082 seats and include a luxury club area with 12 suites.

“I’ve heard from so many in our community as they’ve followed the progress of construction and now, we get to share what the end product will look like, so it just brings this first-class facility to life,” said Josh Morton, the Augustana athletics director. “Hockey fans and our student-athletes are going to love Midco Arena.”

The facility will includes amenities for the hockey program such as a locker room and puck shooting room, and it will house the 7,300 square-foot Augustana Athletics strength & conditioning center and lounge area for the soccer team.

The arena will also feature the "Skol Shop," where fans can purchase Augustana hockey and athletics apparel.

The 2023-24 hockey season will kick off this fall, although Augustana's first few home games will still be at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. The first home weekend is Oct. 14-15.

The first Vikings game in the Midco Arena is set to take place in mid-January 2024.

“We’re officially under a year away from competing in our inaugural season, and with that comes a great amount of anticipation and excitement,” Vikings head coach Garrett Raboin said in a press release. “We feel we’re in a great place and our staff continues to work as we look to secure the right pieces needed to build a strong foundation."

The Vikings will announce its full non-conference schedule this spring and the CCHA schedule this summer.
