Living the best of both worlds during his high school days, Steve was getting recognition from the Recording Academy, but also still made time to go to prom. “I wasn’t like a celebrity kid at my high school… I was super regular. I went to prom, everything. My high school experience, I felt like Hannah Montana, I felt like I was living a double life."

Now 24, Steve’s evolution into the artist he is today, “has been a natural evolution of realizing my place in music,” Lacy revealed. Noting that, “before I was super uncertain about if I had a place y’know, or if I’m doing things right.” But by looking at his work and industry relationships he’s build and maintained, Lacy’s self-assurance has overcome any self-doubt and his single “Bad Habit” rising up the charts also surely didn’t hurt.

Working on his latest album Gemini Rights, also helped build Steve’s confidence. Removing all the “unnecessary pressures” he’s felt working on previous projects. This time around, his goal was to “tap in to what makes us vulnerable as people,” shying away from  speaking “in code” lyrically and “walk around what I’m trying to say.” Which Steve admitted was more fun, noting, “what I’m most proud about this album, is how much it feels like me.”

Lacy and Bru also got into the pseudo-meaning of Gemini Rights’ breakout hit “Bad Habit,” as well as what Lacy’s learned from his experiences early on working with names like Tyler The Creator, Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar, and more. Check it out above.
