The Fiat Doblo Panorama made its first appearance locally in 2013 to compete with other van-based MPVs such as the Volkswagen Caddy and Renault Kangoo. Although it could hold its own against the best of its rivals, the Italian automaker withdrew the family MPV from the local market, however, kept the Cargo offering.

The Fiat Doblo managed to set itself apart with its effective suspension setup and then best-in-class storage capacity. While on the exterior the Doblo Panorama retains similar styling as its Cargo sibling, the interior offerers seven seats and a host of then, state-of-the-art technical features. Under the bonnet, the Italians focussed on reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions when compared to the model it replaces.

 

1. Engine

The Fiat Doblo Panorama comes fitted with Fiat's 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, Multijet engine. The motor is coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission and is capable of producing 78 kW and 290 Nm of torque. The Doblo will achieve 100 km/h in 13.4 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 164 km/h. One of the main figures to note is the competitive fuel consumption figure, rated by the manufacturer at 5.5 L / 100 km, with CO2 emissions of 145g/km. 

 

2. Interior features

First and foremost, the Panorama offers seven seats finished in Pacman grey cloth. Upfront the occupants are treated to a roof shelf while at the rear it offers, a then, best in class boot capacity. The luggage items are also kept from sight by an included tonneau cover. Fitted as standard equipment is an automatic climate control system which feeds air to the rear of the cabin as well as a stereo sound system incorporating Blue&Me hands-free Bluetooth functionality. 

The radio further supports MP3 playback and can interpret SMS messages. On the steering wheel, the driver can access audio controls as well as the cruise control system. For those tight parking spaces, Fiat included parking sensors.

 

3. Safety features

The Doblo Panorama incorporate a host of standard safety equipment including front airbags as well as side bags. Bringing the Fiat to a quick and safe halt is ABS brakes which are bolstered with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution). Keeping the wheels on the tar is a standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP) while the driver benefits from the Hill Holder system which keeps the brakes engaged while the vehicle is on an incline until it starts moving forward.
