GoFish & Icebox Reveal More Hidden Celebrity Webcam

GoFish Corp. announced the upcoming launch of its latest Internet series, HIDDEN CELEBRITY WEBCAM. The interactive program, sponsored by the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, will premiere on the GoFish Network May 17, 2007.

HIDDEN CELEBRITY WEBCAM is created by Icebox. The animated parody gives audiences a voyeur's glimpse into the most private -- and unwittingly embarrassing -- moments of some of Hollywood's most notorious celebrities as imagined by series creator, Nell Scovell.

Maria Bello Wrapped Up in Mummy 3

Maria Bello is set to take on the role originated by Rachel Weisz in the MUMMY franchise for the series' third edition, reports VARIETY. The cast already includes Brendan Fraser, Luke Ford, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh. Rob Cohen (XXX) will direct the Universal Pictures production.

Final Destination Writer Conjures Up Flamel Adaptation

New Line Cinema has hired FINAL DESTINATION scribe Eric Bress to pen THE ALCHEMYST, which is screen adaptation of Michael Scott's YA fantasy book series, THE IMMORTAL NICHOLAS FLAMEL, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER says. Mark Burnett (TV's SURVIVOR) is the producer.

In THE ALCHEMYST, which is the first book in the series, two teenage twins get wrapped up with legendary alchemist Nicholas Flamel after he loses a book containing secrets that could end humanity if they falls into the wrong hands.

Simpsons Parody Not Funny for FOX

20th Century Fox is urging Web media site Broadcaster.com to remove three Webisodes of THE O.J. SIMPSONS, a parody of O.J. Simpson that uses the design style of FOX's THE SIMPSONS, according THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Broadcaster Inc. is reviewing the requests from FOX, but stated that their fair-use policies allow for parodies.

Spider-Man 3 Slides But Still Rules

Despite a 61.5% slide from its record-breaking opening, SPIDER-MAN 3 still led the box office in its sophomore outing for the weekend period ended May 13, 2007. With $58.1M, SPIDER-MAN 3 (boasting impressive vfx from Sony Pictures Imageworks) has now brought home $240.2M for Sony. Debuting in second place with $9.8M was Fox Atomic's 28 WEEKS LATER (with gritty vfx from Rising Sun Pictures, Animal Logic, Lip Sync, The Senate, The Mill, Rushes, Framestore CFC, DNA, Chocolate Lab, Prime Focus and Rainmaker). Bowing in the third spot was Universal's GEORGIA RULE with $6.7M.

REALVIZ Announces 2007 World Image-Processing Tour

REALVIZ announced details for their forthcoming World Image-Processing Tour, which opens in London on May 22, and continues through June, taking in key cities across Europe, the U.S. and Canada. During the tour, the company will be unveiling their latest technology releases, including version 5.6 of Stitcher Unlimited, available this week, which introduces Mac Universal and HDR capabilities for the very first time, as well as REALVIZ VTour 1.2 HDR and REALVIZ Movimento, among the most advanced video-based motion capture software on the market today.

Academy Announces Finalists for 2007 Student Academy Awards

Thirty-three students from 16 colleges and universities have been selected as finalists in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 34th Annual Student Academy Awards competition. Their films will now be screened for and judged by Academy members, who will vote to select the winners. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards, along with accompanying cash prizes of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, may be presented in each of four categories. Winning filmmakers will participate in a week of industry-related and social activities, culminating in the awards ceremony on June 9, 2007.

Scott McCloud Selected as Second SIGGRAPH Featured Speaker

Graphic novelist Scott McCloud has been selected as the second featured speaker at SIGGRAPH 2007, the 34th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, Aug. 5-9, 2007, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California.

For 2007, SIGGRAPH will replace the single keynote speaker presentation with three featured speakers that will discuss the themes of industry/commerce, art or research as they relate to the SIGGRAPH community.

Star Wars Leads VES' Top 50 Most Influential VFX List

The Visual Effects Society (VES) announced the results of its VES 50: The Most Influential Visual Effects Films of All Time, and it comes as no surprise that STAR WARS took the top spot, with BLADE RUNNER, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, THE MATRIX and JURASSIC PARK rounding out the top five.

According to VES exec director Eric Roth, the VES 50 was determined by a vote of VES members and is the backdrop of the 2007 VES Festival of Visual Effects, which will take place the weekend of June 7-10, at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills.

Hammer Films Resurrected

Dutch producer John De Mol is resurrecting the legendary British horror studio Hammer Film Prods. Mol's private equity company Cyrte Investments has bought the rights to the approximately 300 Hammer library titles for $50 million. Former Liberty Global execs Simon Oakes and Marc Schipper have been hired to run the new Hammer Studios.

Heffalump Writer Penning Sonnenfeld's Box

Barry Sonnenfeld (MEN IN BLACK) is in talks to helm the supernatural action flick, THE BOX, for 20th Century Fox, reports VARIETY. Southpaw Ent.'s Richard Lewis is the producer while Evan Spiliotopoulos (POOH'S HEFFALUMP MOVIE) is the screenwriter.

This contemporary version of the Pandora's box myth follows a college grad, who unknowingly unleashes evils on the world and must team up with Pandora to save Earth.

The fast tracked film is being shepherded by Emma Watts at the studio.

Superman Returns Conquers Saturns

SUPERMAN RETURNS and HEROES conquered the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films' 33rd Saturn Awards, which was held at the Universal Hilton on May 10, 2007.

SUPERMAN flew home with the Best Fantasy Film as well as Best Direction (Bryan Singer), Best Writing (Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty), Best Actor (Brandon Routh) and Best Music (John Ottman).

On the TV side, HEROES took home Best Network TV Series, while Masi Oka and Hayden Panettiere won Best Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively.

At the 40th Worldfest Independent Film Festival, which ran from April 20-29, 2007, two DVD titles from Inkwell Images Ink won Gold Remi Awards. BEFORE WALT, a centennial celebration of animation, won in the Cultural Category and THE LEGENDARY LAUGH-O-GRAMS FAIRY TALES, a profile on Walt Disney's Kansas City period, won in the Entertainment Category.

Toei Animation Creates In-House Licensing Division for U.S. Market

Toei Animation Inc. has established an in-house consumer products licensing division under the supervision of Coy Edmunds, the unit's newly appointed director of business development and licensing. Headquartered in Toei's Los Angeles offices, the licensing operation will focus on the U.S. market and launch with the licensing representation of the company's popular Digimon brand.

Toei's new licensing operation will make its official debut at the New York International Licensing Show to be held to be held June 19-21, 2007, at the Javitz Convention Center.
