In February 2024 the National Bank of Ukraine announced a new Ukraine 50 Hryven commemorative banknote. This new release is dedicated to the Ukrainian people’s struggle for freedom, unity and integrity because of the current conflict going on. Its theme is called “Unity Saves the World”. There will only be 300,000 banknotes printed and placed into circulation. Sale of the banknote began on March 7, 2024.

This is the 2nd commemorative banknote issued since the beginning of the conflict with Russia in 2022. In February 2023 the National Bank of Ukraine introduced the 20 Hryven banknote. It commemorates 1 year since the beginning of the Ukrainian / Russian War. The banknote contains shades of blue and yellow same as their flag. In addition, both sides have a vertical orientation. On the obverse side is an image of soldiers raising the Ukrainian flag as well as flags of the US, Canada, UK and EU to symbolize their help in this conflict. In the background there is also a map of Ukraine. On the upper side of the banknote is the national coat of arms.

On the reverse side are images of the Ukrainian flag as well as arms tied with rope to symbolize the suffering of the Ukrainian people. In addition to a crown of thorns and bullet holes. The banknote is legal tender with only a limited amount in circulation.

The New Ukraine 50 Hryven Banknote

The new banknote is colored in shades of blue, purple, and yellow. It’s vertically oriented. The obverse design features an image of an outline of a woman in a military helmet looking towards the west. There is also map of Ukraine and vessels spreading out to western European countries along with hearts. In addition, there is an image of the coat of arms of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the upper right hand corner and the national coat of arms on the left hand side. On the reverse side is a large image of the Ukrainian coat of arms and the symbolic trident in the very center with hands holding each other as a symbol of  cooperation, assistance, trust and partnership.
