Cowboys Hire Wide Receiver Coach Jimmy Robinson from Packers

Gerry Fraley from the Dallas Morning News reports Jimmy Robinson has left the Super Bowl champion Packers to join the Dallas Cowboys as wide receivers coach.

Robinson has been with the Packers since 2006, where his dedication to the fundamentals and focus on the "little things" has helped mold a mixture of veterans and younger players into a productive group over the past four years, according to the Packers Media Guide.

Under his coaching, veteran Packers receiver Donald Driver followed up two Pro Bowl campaigns in 2006 and 2007 with two more 1,000-yard seasons in 2008 and 2009. Robinson also has been instrumental in the rapid development of youngsters Greg Jennings, James Jones, and Jordy Nelson.

Robinson has 27 NFL seasons under his belt, six as a player and 21 as a receiver coach. In 16 NFL seasons as a coach prior to coming to Green Bay, he tutored several top receivers, including Andre Rison, Michael Haynes, Marvin Harrison, Ike Hilliard, Joe Horn, Amani Toomer and Donté Stallworth in coaching stops with New Orleans (2004-05), the New York Giants (1998-2003), Indianapolis (1994-97), and Atlanta (1990-93).

Robinson’s ties to Garrett date back to his time with the Giants. Garrett was the team’s backup quarterback during part of Robinson's coaching tenure there.

Drafted by Atlanta in 1975, he played 58 games during a six-year NFL career with the New York Giants (1976-79), San Francisco 49ers (1980) and Denver Broncos (1981). He was drafted out of Georgia Tech and was inducted into the school’s hall of fame in 1981.
