If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Colton Underwood is embodying that trite mantra, as he’s named the latest leading man for the next season of “The Bachelor.”

The former NFL player, who also famously dated Needham-raised Olympian Aly Raisman, announced he’s returning to the reality franchise during “Good Morning America” yesterday. It’ll now be his turn to dole out roses to the ladies vying for his affection, after he’s previously completed two tours of duty as a contestant on “The Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise.” But this time around, he’s hoping to finally land his happily ever after.

“That’s what I’m looking forward to the most, being engaged and then getting married shortly after that,” Underwood told GMA’s Michael Strahan.

“Third time’s the charm, that’s what they say, right?” he also said, adding that his criteria for a soulmate is simple: someone who has her own passion and is a good person.

Up until now, Underwood’s tenure on the show has been peppered with drama, aka reality TV gold. While he was competing for Becca Kufrin’s heart on Season 14 of “The Bachelorette,” his former flame Tia Booth crashed the set to give her gal pal the green light to pursue Underwood. Booth returned later in the season to rescind her blessing, confessing to Kufrin that she still had feelings for him.

Underwood and Booth went on to reopen their chapter by reuniting on this season of “Bachelor in Paradise.” But the reconciliation was short-lived, with the pair breaking up during Monday’s episode.

Now that Underwood has shaken the Booth bug and has his pick of the upcoming crop of eligible ladies, we’ll see if he’ll have his chance to ride off into the sunset. Season 23 of “The Bachelor” is slated to air next year on ABC.
