Jimmy Fallon Just Revealed Exactly What He Was Thinking During That Seriously Awkward RuPaul Moment

"I really thought it was over," Jimmy told the audience on Monday's Tonight Show. "I go, 'That's it, I'm cancelled.'"

A clip of RuPaul's appearance on the Tonight Show went viral over the weekend after people noticed a moment where Jimmy Fallon looked absolutely terrified that he'd said something seriously offensive.

Basically, Jimmy began the interview segment by congratulating Ru on becoming the first drag queen on the cover of Vanity Fair.

To which Ru responded like this:

I think we can all agree that Jimmy was more than a little bit shook, afraid that he'd accidentally offended Ru.

And while Ru ~did~ clarify why he was yelling after a few seconds of leaving Jimmy to sweat, the damage had already been done.

The clip was posted on Twitter by user @issa6foot3, and went insanely viral, amassing more than half a million likes and almost eight million views.

Luckily, Jimmy managed to pull the interview back together after his career's near-death experience. All was well!

But during the opening of Monday night's show, Jimmy acknowledged the awkward moment and admitted that it actually did have him mildly terrified.

"I really thought it was over," he told the audience.

"I was like, Wait, what did I do wrong?" Jimmy went on.
