Overview

Mini's most recognizable products—the diminutive Cooper hatchback and convertible—are receiving a handsome new look for 2025 as part of a tip-to-tail makeover that will see a modernization of the car's design and features. The Cooper Electric debuted first, and revealed that the Cooper will remain instantly identifiable as a Mini. The gasoline-powered variants covered here look similar and again include a racier S trim. Unlike the previous-generation model, which was offered with either a turbo three- or four-cylinder engine, the 2025 Cooper comes only with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes up to 201 horsepower. We expect an eight-speed automatic will again be mated to the turbo-four, and we're hoping that a six-speed manual will be in the mix too—though that's yet to be confirmed. The Cooper remains a small car, but alterations to the cabin have imbued it with a more open, airier feel. Likewise, Mini has upgraded the materials inside to give the 2025 Cooper a more premium ambiance. Look for the new Cooper S in dealers in spring 2024, followed closely by the entry-level Cooper C, which arrives in the summer.

What's New for 2025?

The Mini Cooper is all-new for 2025 and it wears a new look that marries the brand's future and past. A revised interior features a cool circular infotainment display and more premium materials, and boasts a slightly more spacious feeling. So far, only the hatchback model has been revealed, but we expect to see a convertible join the lineup next. While there's more to learn about the upcoming Minis, the company has revealed entry pricing for the hatchback model.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2025 Mini Cooper Hardtop / Convertible starts at $29,945 and goes up to $33,195 depending on the trim and options.

Cooper C
$29,945
Cooper S
$33,195

For this latest generation of Mini's iconic Cooper, the company will offer it in two distinct models, the entry-level C, and the racier S. Two trim levels will be offered—Classic and Favoured—but Mini hasn't released specific pricing or a detailed list of each one's equipment. When we find out more, we'll update this story with those details and make a recommendation on which version represents the best value.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Both the Cooper C and Cooper S come equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Mini has not yet revealed a horsepower rating for the engine in the entry-level Cooper C, but in the more powerful S model, it makes 201 horsepower—12 more than in the 2024 Cooper S, which came with a turbocharged four-cylinder. We expect to see an eight-speed automatic on most models, but Mini may also offer a six-speed manual option for drivers who prefer a stick. When we find out more information about the Cooper C and Cooper S's engine and transmission specs, we'll update this story with details.

    0–60-MPH Times

According to Mini, the Cooper S can hit 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. Given that the last-generation Cooper S we tested—which had less horsepower—managed a 6.2-second time, we expect to beat Mini's claimed result when we get a chance to drive the new Cooper S for ourselves.

      Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA hasn't released fuel economy estimates for the 2025 Cooper yet, but the new model's MPG numbers adhere closely to the previous-generation car's, which was rated for as high as 38 mpg highway. For more information about the Cooper's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

      Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Mini has taken a simplistic approach with the new Cooper's interior. It started by analyzing the original Mini from 1959 and settled on a pared-back design inspired by that car. But it's far less basic than the vintage model and features nice materials, a textile-covered dashboard, clever hidden LED lighting elements, and a more refined control panel with toggle switches. We had the chance to sit inside it *during a Mini preview event and were impressed with the build quality—though that was no doubt a specially prepped car. We also noted that, although the new car is roughly the same size as the outgoing model, the interior felt more spacious and open.

        Infotainment and Connectivity

The Cooper's party piece is a unique circular digital infotainment display that appears to float in front of the dashboard. A head-up display is also available and pops up from the dash in front of the driver. Mini has been tight-lipped about most of the new Cooper's features and options; we'll update this story when we find out more info.

          Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Cooper comes with driver-assistance technology such as forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, and lane-keeping assist. For more information about its crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

          • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
          • Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
          • Available adaptive cruise control

          Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Mini offers a slightly better warranty than other small-car manufacturers, particularly with complimentary scheduled maintenance. Volvo and BMW both offer complimentary scheduled maintenance plans that match Mini's policy.

          • Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
          • Powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
          • Complimentary scheduled maintenance is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles
